Henderson County Texas Salvation Army assistance programs.

While the Henderson County Salvation Army is technically a Christian based church group, they can provide assistance regardless of religion, race, age, or religion. Most of what they provide is due to the money raised from the sale of goods at the thrift store, while other financial aid is the result of donations from non-profits such as the United Way.

There are a few categories of assistance provided. They can change throughout the year based on the season, and some may be cut due to funding. There types of support offered to qualified low income families include the following.

  • Housing assistance programs.
  • Support for children.
  • Food or meals.
  • Disaster relief.
  • Case management.
  • Mentoring or counseling.
  • Christmas and school supply help.
  • Support for the vulnerable.
  • Thrift store.

Other help is also provided. Those are just examples of what the Henderson County Salvation Army may have. Note there is no guarantee to receiving any form of assistance, but they will try support as many people as possible.

Salvation Army Henderson County Texas housing programs are focused on keeping families in a home or apartment. Everything from rent to energy bills, emergency shelter, or water bills can be paid. The demand for financial help is always greater than supply, so many struggling households will be turned away, especially those with limited ability to stabilize their situation.

Children can be assisted. The Salvation Army is involved in placing them into summer camps, which can help minimize the need for day care costs during the summer months.

Free food as well as hot meals are available. The pantry passes out healthy groceries and the soup kitchen may have lunches or breakfasts for both the homeless and indigent. They also help during the holidays to ensure food is provided.

Staff will help clients find employment, learn how to budget properly, and get on the correct path to financial stability. They can even offer referrals to local state of Texas grants for paying bills, such as TANF and others.

Counseling is similar to the case management above. A key difference though is the type of client, as this program can help everyone from ex-prisoners to teenagers and substance abusers.

Holiday assistance is always in high demand. The Salvation Army and partners in Henderson County provide free items to the needy. This ranges from Christmas toys to Thanksgiving turkey or school uniforms or supplies.

People most at risk if they do not receive help are considered to be vulnerable. This often means that seniors, the disabled, or kids get priority for food, housing support, and other needs, such as clothes.

As noted, the thrift/family store is available as well in Malakoff. This will allow residents to buy what they need for their family. Whether it is furniture for a home, clothes for a job or child, or kitchen supplies, the Salvation Army in Henderson County will try to sell it. The money raised funds the list of financial aid programs listed here as well.
