Find rental assistance in Gaston County.

Rent help is available in Gaston County as part of a process known as Homeless Prevention & Stabilization. There are many parts of this program. They include the issuance of emergency cash grants for paying security deposits or back rent, outreach, and also help in finding and applying to other public benefits including section 8 HUD housing.

Several agencies take part in these various housing assistance programs that help with rent in Gaston County. They are listed below. Each has a different application process. Emergency rental assistance may be issued by a church, a non-profit organization, or a charity. Some of the funding is also focused on the most vulnerable. This means that a senior citizen, single mom, or disabled individuals is often first in line for any short term rent help.

This regional non-profit only help veterans and their immediate family members. The SSVF program, which is the result of HUD funding, offers government grants to pay for everything from moving costs to rental deposits, application fees, storage costs, repairs, and job training costs. Guidance is also given to help clients obtain VA and other rent or housing benefits

Funds to pay rent is only for Cramerton families. Duke Power and local churches pay for this service, and there may also be interest free loans used to pay energy bills or a portion of the rent to a landlord.

Transitional housing is given to the homeless that are recovering from substance abuse. Over 60 beds are on site, and guests also get meals, social services, clothing, and housing support.

Emergency rent assistance, gas, and food is offered. The thrift shop also has low cost furniture, appliances, and other goods for an apartment. This can free up the family's income so they can keep up with the monthly rent on their own.

Free legal aid covers landlord tenant disputes, security for domestic violence, and fraud. They also help seniors and the poor apply for benefits, such as HUD section 8 rent vouchers or disability.
