Frontier Community Action Agency assistance programs.

The focus of the non-profit Frontier Community Action Agency is on helping individuals gain self-sufficiency as well as providing short term grant money to pay bills in a crisis. There is assistance programs, financial help, job programs and other support in the counties of Elko, Lander, Humboldt, and Pershing. Find how to get help from Frontier Community Action Agency.

A major goal is on helping low-income families, the unemployed and working poor who are in a crisis. Throughout that process the organization may be able to offer some temporary support, such as free job, educational and employment services, and referrals to emergency financial assistance.

Food assistance from Frontier Community Action Agency

The agency works with the regional Winnemucca Food Bank on the Back-Pack Program. This is really for children from the region. Weekend meals that are healthy and nutritious are provided for children of working poor parents. The meals will be prepacked and sent home with the students for use during the weekend or maybe a holiday.

The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) is fairly similar to above. It is federally funded and offers free nutritious lunches and groceries to children 18 years and younger. This one operates all summer long in counties such as Humboldt, Pershing, and nearby towns. All children and students are welcome to join staff from Frontier Community Action Agency and partner charities for a meal.

Financial help, free medical and other social services

Information, emergency assistance, and case management is available at the Family Resource Center. FRC offers clients access to a wide variety of emergency financial assistance and social services. This includes help with completing welfare forms and information on government benefits such as LIHEAP or food stamps. Or learn about options such as weatherization or section 8 housing vouchers. Dental Care from Miles For Smiles is a Frontier Community Action Agency (FCAA) sponsored program that brings free quality dental care to children in need. It operates in the region such as Lander and Humboldt County Nevada. It will offer free cleanings, fluoride, and other dental assistance to children of low income or uninsured families.

 

 

 

 

The Miles for Smiles is run by a non-profit that brings a dental van to counties so those children on government Medicaid can receive care. There is also information on emergency dental clinics for everything from extractions to oral surgery. Find free emergency dental surgery near you.

Free job training and carer services from Frontier Community Action Agency

VITA - Volunteer Income Tax Assistance is when a specialist helps a resident understand, complete, and file their taxes for free. IRS trained staff provide timely and accurate income tax preparation for moderate to low income families. Maybe the best part of VITA is that the agency won‘t charge you a dime for the service, so you will receive 100% of your state and federal income tax return. There are centers set up across the region, including in Elko County.

Frontier Community Action Agency Employment Assistance Services is a key offering. The non-profit will offer clients a wide variety of services on employment. Help is offered for actual job search to resume building. The activity of finding gainful employment can become very daunting and sometimes frightening. Case managers from FCAA help clients by guiding you in the right direction and providing feedback.

A number of other assistance programs are offered. FCAA knows that people having skills and an education, and a well-trained workforce, are key to self-sufficiency and a strong economy in Nevada. The non-profit Frontier Community Action Agency directs and empowers individuals they have information on training, job fairs, assist with CDL license for truck driving and more. Staff fight unemployment, poverty, work to prevent evictions and more through a variety of programs. Other resources offered may be Financial Literacy Training, Family Stability Council (FSC), and in general career skills development.
