Dane County Foreclosure Prevention Program.

A new program has been started in Dane County Wisconsin to help delay and stop foreclosures. The Dane County Foreclosure Prevention Taskforce (DCFPT) created the program, and it includes three working groups. They include prevention, intervention (including mediation), and stabilization.

A partnership of non profit agencies, government organizations, and other agencies created the Dane County Foreclosure Prevention Taskforce in 2009. They are working together to address the foreclosure problem in Madison and Dane County. A taskforce of volunteers are working together to counsel homeowners, prevent foreclosures, offer mediation, and stabilize neighborhoods one home at a time.

The three components include :

Prevention Committee - This group will be distributing counseling and advice, including a local resource guide that is geared for homeowners in distress. They will focus on helping those who are interested in proactively addressing their mortgage troubles and looking for ways to get back on track. Advice offered, and topics covered will include advice for those homeowners who are late or who have missed a mortgage payment, advice for negotiating with lenders, an easy-to-understand explanation and ongoing advice of the foreclosure process, and free information and tips about protecting the homeowners important legal rights.

Intervention Committee - This component is focused on provided support to the University of Wisconsin Law School’s Consumer Law Clinic, and the committee and the law school will be establishing a foreclosure mediation program in Dane County. The mediation assistance program, which will be based on the model implemented in Milwaukee earlier this year by Marquette University Law School, will be in place in early 2010. Mediation will ensure lenders and homeowners meet to find solutions to mortgage problems, including loan modifications.

Stabilization Committee - This focuses on supporting the local nonprofit housing partners and other agencies that are working to repair, rehabilitate and repopulate foreclosed homes. The stabilization committee will be working closely with and collaborating with the South Central Realtors Foundation, lending institutions and other local groups to identify funding sources and begin implementing programs.

Contact the taskforce at info@daneforeclosurehelp.org. The taskforce will be holding various workshops that will assist homeowners with identifying the root cause of their mortgage problems, they will advice and counsel them, help evaluate the homeowners financial positions, provide options and alternatives to a foreclosure, and find ways to less the impact of a foreclosure if there are no other options.
