Fayette County assistance programs

The Community Action Commission of Fayette County has received millions of dollars in federal government money to fund a variety of assistance programs. The primary goal of the Community Action agency is to provide short term help for bills, combat the underlying causes of poverty, and expand community resources and services.

Housing, rent, and energy bill assistance

They offer the Homeless Prevention and Rapid Rehousing program. This program provides Rent/Utility Assistance, Employment Counseling, Budgeting/Credit Counseling, Case Management, and referral programs. People can receive up to 18 months of rent help, and funds to pay energy and heating bills.

Home Energy Assistance Program

There are several components to this assistance program. The first is E-HEAP, which is otherwise known as Emergency Heap. This Emergency Payment Program provides assistance a maximum of one time per heating season to qualified households that are threatened with disconnection, disconnected, or if the household has less than a ten day supply of bulk heating fuel. The Emergency HEAP program can also help pay for heating system repairs, upgrades, and replacements in certain cases.

The second option is the Summer Crisis Program. This was designed to help eligible households with paying for their summer air conditioning and cooling bills. This assistance program applies to electric utilities and air conditioning units as well.

The last part of the energy bill program is known as Regular HEAP. The Regular HEAP Program is designed to help eligible low and moderate income Ohio families meet the high costs of home heating bills, fuel, and heating oil. Learn how to get free heating oil from the Oil Heat program.

The HEAP program provides a one-time payment for PUCO regulated utility customers for the winter heating season. Vouchers are issued to non-regulated utility customers, master-metered and other applicants of the program who do not have a utility bill in their name.
