Ellis County food banks and free pantries.

The Ellis County food pantries tend to focus on families that live near the distribution point. If there is a family that lives some distance away, then they may still be provided referrals. Or if the applicant is home bound, options include Meals on Wheels or other support from a food pantry.

Proof of residency, income, and other information will be needed from an applicant. If found to be qualified, then free food may be provided to the person, and the contents of a box may last a few days. The pantries in the county will try to offer a combination of perishable food (such as milk, fruits, or breads) as well as canned goods, even baby formula if applicable.

It is recommended to apply early. Most of the groceries or other assistance is provided on a first come and served basis to households in or on the brink of poverty. Also, the hours of each food bank in Ellis County are limited, and some of the programs, such as Thanksgiving and Christmas meals or clothing for work or school, are often in high demand.
