Elkhart County food pantries.

Free food pantries and soup kitchens in Elkhart County provide both perishable and nonperishable items to the general public. Applicants will need to be facing hunger and also undergoing a short term crisis. They often only cover a designated service area and all resources are very limited.

The programs that are in place to fight hunger are wide ranging. Some of the food banks provide weekly supplemental goods for persons with disabilities or senior citizens. Others will ensure that a student from a low income household has some form of food over the summer months or a holiday, or that the homebound has a meal delivered to them. So the assistance will vary.

Boxes of groceries passed out in Elkhart may contain fresh fruits, eggs, bread, margarine, baby formula, and more. There will also be special Christmas and Thanksgiving food baskets passed out too. Or vouchers or gift certificates are used for people with dietary needs.
