Energy bill assistance from Electrical District No. 3

The Community Action Human Resources Agency (CAHRA) runs a utility bill assistance program for Electrical District No. 3. The energy company’s board of directors created this fund that will provide financial assistance to qualified customers. The fund mostly works off donations from businesses and members of the community, so it also offers an opportunity for ED3 utility bill customers and residents to contribute to their community by making a tax deductible donation.

All donations that are intended for energy assistance will be placed in the emergency assistance fund to assist consumers with paying their monthly utility or electric bills. ED3 will donate the funds collected through various sources, including customer contributions to the local non-profit charity organization, CAHRA.

How to donate to Electrical District No. 3 program

First, note that the program is voluntary and contributions are fully tax deductible as well. Customers have several ways to donate and contribute, including the following.

A monthly billing round-up contribution services is offered. What will happen is ED3 will round up your utility bill amount to the nearest whole dollar amount, and the extra round up amount is donated. For example, if your monthly utility bill is $33.37, you will be billed $34. Your round up contribution would be 63 cents for a total of $34. The 63 cents is the donated amount.

Make a regular, recurring monthly contribution, such as one dollar or any other amount of your choice added to your monthly bill.

Or people are always free to make a one-time donation in any denomination or amount they choose.

All donations collected by Electrical District No. 3 will be allocated to the non-profit Community Action Human Resources Agency (CAHRA), a local nonprofit agency serving ED3 customers. This agency accepts applications from the needy and will disburse the funds and cash to qualified low income and/or senior consumers who are having difficulty paying their monthly electric bill. Call them at (520) 466-1112.

The Energy Assistance Fund Program offered by Electrical District No. 3 (ED3) provides an easy opportunity for people to contribute and give back to their community. The Community Action Human Resources Agency also does an effective job in funneling the money to those who are most in need.

Electrical District No. 3 also offers a Level Payment Plan. This will allow all customers, regardless of their income, to pay about the same amount on their electric bill, regardless of actual usage for that period. This can help with budgeting and planning purposes. A benefit is it will allow people to balance their lower bills with the higher bills, and the customer is charged the average between the two. People will then have a predictable payment each month. This is especially useful in Arizona with the seasonal changes in electricity use, such as extra cooling that occurs during the summer.

Since the ED3 Level Payment Plan is not a flat rate, the customer is still responsible for the total cost of the electricity you use. It just eliminates those spikes in monthly bills. It is recommended that people continue to monitor their actual energy costs as well as their monthly usage.
