Community Services League assistance programs Kansas City.

Case management from Community Services League is combined with emergency assistance, job placement, and other services. The agency assists the less fortunate, poor, and low income in the Kansas City Missouri area, and the staff is committed to doing its best to help as many qualified families as possible.

Each year, the Family Center from the non-profit serves a number of low income households in the area, using a strength-based case management approach. The staff and volunteers from the agency recognizes that each family and person seeking aid is unique, and each has its own needs, so due to that they offer a wide array of assistance programs. They range from social services, general information as well as referrals, and linkage to other community agencies or even churches in Kansas City. Services include free food and nutrition assistance, free holiday programs, educational programming, tax preparation, housing and utility bill assistance, and much more.

Financial help, literacy and case management from Community Services League

In general, the case management process from CSL promotes programs that work to help clients overcome poverty and hunger. The intent is to be a hand up, rather than a handout. The goal of the charity and its staff is to replace financial difficulty with hope and prosperity for the client.

Emergency Assistance (EAP) works closely with low-income or working poor families as they move toward the goal of economic and employment self-sufficiency. The first step of this journey is to provide programming that assists them in stabilizing their situation, so they can turn their attention to the ultimate goal of financial independence.

For food and nutrition needs, a few days’ worth of goods may be provided, as well as applications to SNAP food stamps and similar benefits. The free food will targeted percentage of the recommended daily nutrients. Another part of this is referrals to local food banks, churches, soup kitchens and pantries in Kansas City. They also partner with the East Missouri Action Agency on this activity.

 

 

 

Rent and Mortgage Assistance is part of Emergency Food and Shelter Program – EFSP. The federal government funding enables Community Services League to provide emergency, one time rental or mortgage assistance in order to avoid the loss of homes due to eviction or to a lesser extent, foreclosure.

In cases of an overdue mortgage payment or foreclosure, staff collaborate and advocate on their behalf with banks and lenders. They will also provide the homeowner with financial counseling and education, and assist with securing alternative housing, and paying the security deposit on it, in cases where foreclosure is unavoidable.

Grants may be issued for utility or heating bills, including those Families in Kansas struggling. the cash grants can help individuals with paying utility bills and assist those facing termination of services.

Seasonal assistance is free school supplies and uniforms. There is also free Christmas meals and gifts or presents for children. Partnerships are in place with other Kansas City groups such as Coats for Kids, Kiwanis Club holiday party for children, the Angel Tree, and many others.

As a HUD-Certified Housing Counselor, the non-profit provides the following services to those who are homeless or at risk. Clients, both homeowners and tenants, can benefit from Counseling, Case Management, Budgeting Classes, Credit Repair, and Rent or Mortgage Help, as indicated above. Work Express is the job placement and training program. As part of this, Community Services League coaches and advisers guide Clients through the transition from under-employment and/or joblessness into stable work. Assistance offered includes Resume Writing, Practice Interview Skills, Job Training, Equipment, free work clothes, Temporary Transportation, and referrals to federal one stop centers in Missouri.

 

 

 

 

Free hygiene supplies and healthcare services

Community Services League partners with Kansas City's Medicine Cabinet to provide eyeglasses, free prescription medications, hearing aids, and other non-emergency medical services. They also have referrals to both medical and dental clinics in Kansas City and Jackson County.

Basic needs may be offered, including free personal hygiene items, diapers, and clothing, including partnerships with groups such as HappyBottoms.This will offer low income parents as well as single moms in Kansas City free diapers and baby supplies. There are even referrals to baby cribs for free.
