Churches, charities, and non-profits in Collin County Texas offer free holiday assistance, including Christmas toys or gifts, to low-income families, including Spanish speakers. Get assistance from Toys for Tots, Angel Tree from the Salvation Army, or adopt a family among other resources. Whether the household is facing a crisis, unemployed, has no money or living in poverty, there may be free Christmas gifts for a child or a hot meal for the entire family, including at Thanksgiving. Programs are available at other key holiday events as well. How the programs work is the charities accept donations from the Plano, McKinney and entire community. Volunteers then sort the goods, whether it is a toy, food basket, clothing, video games, dolls for girls or another gift. Then, for those families that apply and are accepted into one of these holiday programs, the items are given to them for free.

The focus of the organizations is on helping children, senior citizens, and the vulnerable. People of any religion or background can apply. An adopt a family program operates at Christmas. Generous members of the community “Adopt” a local Collin County family or senior citizen. They buy food, gifts, and more for them. There may be shoes, clothes, games or books for kids, gift certificates and other holiday help. Immigrants and the working poor can apply too, with services in Spanish too.

North Texas Food Bank – Collin County

Hundreds of local charities serve as feeding sites. They try to provide special holiday meals (at Thanksgiving and Christmas) or free food baskets. Some of the partner sites may also have vouchers to buy groceries, small Christmas presents for a child, and more.

They may give away inexpensive toys, based on what has been donated. Both adults and children that use the clinic services may be provided items.

Salvation Army
The Collin County centers run an Angel Tree program as well as Adopt a Family. Games, small electronics, educational gifts, clothes, Legos, sporting goods and more may be provided. They also operate other social service programs for the region. In addition, free turkey dinners are passed out as well as Easter baskets and stocking stuffer gifts at Christmas. The Samaritan Inn

There is only help for individuals and families living at the Inn. The Samaritan Inn distributes holiday food boxes to those in the community who are in need.

 

 

 

 

Leatherneck Club of North Texas
A focus is on holiday help for veterans and their kids, including free toys, Legos, matchbox cars, games and more. Call the Collin County agency at 972-495-1261. They are part of Toys for Tots. New, unwrapped gifts, games, clothing items, and Christmas presents are given for free to children from working poor/needy households.

Vietnam Veterans Foundation of Texas

Veterans, including the disabled as well as homeless, can get hel from the Collin County charity. There is everything from housing to applications to government aid, Thanksgiving meals, scholarships, Christmas programs, and more. Veterans, their spouses and children can apply for help.

Frisco Family Services Center

Applicants need to live in the city of Frisco. A low cost thrift store is on site. Staff offer referrals, and there may be vouchers to income qualified residents so they can obtain free Christmas gifts.

Toys for Tots of Collin County
Non-profits partner with the United States Marine Corps Reserve in northern Texas to offer this service. Parents need to apply at a local social service center or online. There may be unwrapped toys for a boy or girl, and Christmas goods for infants or teenagers too. Caregivers or a homebound elderly resident can stop at a meal site, or request a frozen holiday box of food. A small donation is requested to keep this volunteer service operating.

Society of Saint Vincent de Paul of Collin County
There are multiple churches with many volunteers. They help the low income, unemployed, seniors and others during the holidays.
