Alliance for Social Ministry programs in Chesterfield-Colonial Heights.

Supporting several towns and regions of Chesterfield County as well as nearby counties such as Prince George, the charity known as CCHASM provides emergency assistance to the disadvantaged and low income. They provide a combination of direct financial aid for certain expenses in a crisis, and also offer clients referrals to other charities or churches in the area. The main programs from the Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Alliance for Social Ministry are below.

They offer groceries from a food outreach program. There will only be support for those that meet all qualifications, and the screening and application process is extensive. The assistance is for one time needs in an emergency, and is for people that are otherwise self-sufficient. CCHASM does not provide support to residents that are in chronic need. The charity partners with dozens of Food Pantries to provide groceries, meals, and canned items to the needy.

A goal is to prevent hunger in the region, including Colonial Heights and Prince George and really across Virginia. They offer support to children, the elderly, and anyone that is struggling to provide for their family. Not only will boxes of food be offered, but there are also hot meals and applications to government aid too, such as food stamps.

An even more intensive application process is done for any financial assistance. The organization has occasional funds to pay for utility bills to stop a shut off, rental expenses, or other basic needs. They also help by providing medications for life threatening conditions and offer referrals to community clinics for check ups and other medical care. This aid is limited, and it often depends on government grants or money being raised from donations in the community.

Holiday support is available from the Thanksgiving Meal Gift Package Program. Social Ministry partners with schools, businesses, churches, and charities to provide help to the needy and working poor that would otherwise go without help during the holiday. There may be free turkeys, toppings, desserts, and other Thanksgiving baskets offered.

Free work attire is provided by the Career Clothes Closet. For those going on an interview, or needing clothes for work, they may receive free pants, blouses, suits, shirts and shoes, to women who need either interview or work attire. Referrals may be offered to gasoline voucher programs too. This is professional, office quality items, and the clothing is for both men and women in Chesterfield County Virginia. Call 804-796-3715 for details on the clothing closet.

Other support is available as resources allow. Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Alliance for Social Ministry has an increasing demand for food, grants to pay bills or rent, and clothing, and while they do their best to meet this demand, in many cases they can’t. It can be due to the applicant not qualifying or limited funding.

When CCHASM can’t help, referrals may be offered. They work together as a team in partnership with other churches and non-profit community resources to effectively respond to the needs of clients.

All of the aid and programs referenced above are available in Chesterfield, Colonial Heights, Dinwiddie, Hopewell, and Prince George. So the charity and its churches cover multiple counties in Virginia. They also partner with the Department of Social Services in these locations to improve the coordination of services and financial aid.

Social Ministry is located in Chesterfield Virginia. As noted, the service territory is wide ranging and includes several counties and towns. For more information, dial (804) 796-3715.
