Financial assistance from Camden area Catholic Charities.

The Catholic Charities, Diocese of Camden, provides services to a number of counties in New Jersey. Families who need help, case management, social services, or emergency assistance can call upon the charity organization. Several community centers are located in areas including Atlantic, Gloucester, and Camden County New Jersey, and offer assistance to residents of those and other nearby regions.

If financial assistance is available, it will be administered from the Family and Community Service Centers. The locations offer direct assistance, referrals, information, and guidance to people facing a crisis or ongoing difficulties. While there is an application process in place, it is streamlined and they try to provide feedback within days.

Some of the Catholic Charity assistance programs can help with the following needs.

  • Utilities - This includes regular energy bills, as well as heating oil and fuel during the winter.
  • Homeless prevention - The possibility for rent money, or emergency housing in southern New Jersey and Camden and Cape May New Jersey. Catholic Charities can offer referrals to, including additional programs that help with rent.
  • Essential prescription medications for people who lack insurance or who have a life threatening condition.
  • Other essential items includes meals from a food pantry, clothing, or school supplies. The food pantry can be used by families or individuals. It addition to groceries, it may also have infant equipment/supplies (such as diapers or formula) that are provided on a first come, first serve basis to the needy.
  • Thrift shops and stores are located at some of the larger centers in Camden and Salem, and will sell items to families of all income levels. The stores sell quality adult, child and infant clothing at a reduced price. They may also sell, or have vouchers for, appliances, household furniture, or other general equipment.
  • Holiday and Christmas Assistance is arranged by Catholic Charities. The centers coordinate people and children getting free holiday gifts, toys, coats and food to help disadvantaged families and seniors enjoy the Christmas season. Phone number is 856-342-4104.
  • The centers are also application sites for NJ Family Care. This is a statewide program that offers low cost or free health care for some low-income parents as well as uninsured children 18 and younger. Call 856-308-0497.

 

 

 

Each Family and Community Service Center also serves as a HIV/AIDS Ministry. The church has committed to provide pastoral and spiritual care, medical assistance and social services to patients. Residents who receive Emergency Assistance or TANF can receive social services and case management from the Catholic Charity Faith in Families Program.

Employees of the Catholic Charities, Diocese of Camden are familiar with all the TANF requirements and eligibility criteria. They are up to date on all other various government entitlement programs as well, such as SNAP food stamps. Hundreds of clients are assisted every month with outreach and referrals for support services. So if you receive TANF, or were on it in the recent past, the agency can support you.

They work with other churches and non-profits such as St. Anthony of Padua, Saint Vincent De Paul, as well as St Joseph Pro-Cathedral. Attention is given to TANF clients to ensure they continue to move forward towards self-sufficiency, get jobs, and gain long term stability. Case managers can refer people to other public aid or entitlement services. They can connect post-TANF clients to the local Board of Social Services in their town or county. which will then link low income families, seniors, and others to social services or government programs for which they are qualified.

 

 

 

 

The other case management program is known as Supportive Assistance for Individuals and Families (SAIF). Employees provide counseling and social services on a non-discriminatory basis. The support provided has really benefited the working poor and oppressed in Camden and Gloucester Counties.

SAIF can help move welfare clients towards long term self-sufficiency and off of government and public support programs. They do this by helping people find a job or gain new skills. Free Diabetes Screening is offered by Catholic Charities working with federal government qualified health centers such as CAMcare Health Corporation. The main recipients of the program are the medically underserved, low income, uninsured, and underinsured in Camden County. Individuals can also be referred to local medical providers, doctors, and they can receive benefits from case management programs and diabetes education workshops. Refugee and Immigration Assistance and Services are one of the primary programs offered by Catholic Charities in New Jersey and across the nation. Specific programs include the Refugee Resettlement program as well as a English as a Second Language Training, Reception and Placement, Supplemental Employment Services, Refugee Individual Development Account program (IDA) and other Immigration Services program.

Refugees and Asylees of southern New Jersey, including Cape May, Atlantic and Camden can explore these assistance programs. Catholic Charity case managers and social workers work in coordination with government agencies, local healthcare providers and social service organizations to provide free or low cost services to clients and they can help them become established in the United States and assist them with self sufficiency.
