The Chittenden County Salvation Army has multiple locations in the region, including three thrift stores and a social service office in Burlington. The charity organization works to help the less fortunate by offering financial help, food, and basic needs. Not only that, but the case management services available can be considered to be a hand up.
There are a total of three thrift stores in the county. What is sold includes, but is not limited too, electronics, Clothes, Small Furniture, Household Goods, Bedding, books, movies, toys for Christmas and birthdays, appliances, bedding, and other items. For people that need emergency financial assistance or information on social services, appointments are needed. The office is open a few days per week. While the Burlington Salvation Army tries to provide funds when they can, often they refer people to local non-profits or even government benefits. Some of them help with energy bills or there may be resources such as free heating oil from charity networks. Other options are explored as well.
The other social services may be offered as the following. A walk in food pantry has cereal, surplus government items such as cheese, formula, and other groceries. This is the main hunger prevention program. But the Chittenden County Salvation Army may also provide money to stop homelessness or utility disconnections, and there may be grants for rent, utility or heating bills, and other housing costs.
When seeking funds from the church based group, bring proof of income, residency, age, and identification.
