Assistance programs in Brooke, Hancock, Marshall, Ohio County

Low income individuals and families of Brooke, Hancock, Marshall, and Ohio counties West Virginia can contact the agencies and non-profits below for assistance.

Catholic Charities West Virginia - Brooke County and the surrounding area are served. The non-profit agency provides emergency assistance and financial aid, including food, rent and housing help. There may also be no interest loans, shelter, clothing, utilities, heating and cooling bill help, and prescription medication vouchers. Administers WV Medicaid Waiver Title 19 Program. Family Service Upper Ohio Valley - Various non-financial programs are offered, as well as information on various other resources and programs. For example, the non-profit provides consumer credit and debt counseling; Senior Services: in-home services - personal care, conservator-representative payee program;  chore services, and companionship; van transportation; Outreach; Alzheimer social support; Adult Day Care Center;  social support; community health clinics and recreational activities. 304-233-2350

Wheeling Health Right, Inc. - This is both a community and government supported free health care clinic. Primary health and medical care services for people with no medical insurance or Medicaid are offered, and who meet certain low income and poverty guidelines. Volunteer physicians, nurses and lay staff provide services to the needy. 304.233.9323

Information Helpline/Upper Ohio Valley - The agency administers EF&S funds (formerly FEMA) for Ohio County, and may be able to provide holiday and Christmas Assistance Program for Ohio County. In addition, case management and counseling may be able to assist families and individuals facing economic crisis or a hardship. Links citizens to social services and charities in the community. Society of St. Vincent de Paul - This partnership of churches may be able to provide assistance to help the needy as well as low income. The Wheeling church, which is regional based, can help with offering them free food, clothing, furniture, and assistance with paying for utilities or maybe prescription medications. Emergency funds as well as free stuff is available when supplies last. The address is Wheeling, WV, or dial the Society at 304.232.4230. CHANGE, Inc. - This is the community action agency, and they offer several services as well as assistance programs.

  • Community clinic - Receive free or low cost medical care, including immunizations, check ups, referrals, pharmacy, and more.
  • Weatherization - Get free energy conserving improvements and updates to your home.
  • Medications - A pharmacy works with local doctors and drug companies to provide free or discounted medications.
  • Emergency services - Limited help may be available for rent or other expenses.
  • Several other low income assistance programs are available. Clients from the area will also be able to enroll into case management services. Learn more.

Broadway Baptist Church (Food Pantry) - Part of a food pantry co-op. Groceries, fruits, vegetables and other gods are offered, even including free hygiene supplies. Dial (304) 422-3240

Gods Pantry Distribution Urban Mission - This center assists both Brooke and Hancock county residents with offering free groceries and food every 4th Thursday of the month. Weirton WV. (740) 282-2911

United Methodist Church - May be able to assist New Manchester and New Cumberland residents and families with grants and funds from the Ministerial Association to help them in paying utility bills, rent and housing expenses, prescriptions, and more. Funding is limited, and usually they assist with up to $25. (304) 564-3951

Salvation Army - Provides a variety of financial aid, including emergency shelter, rent help, food, free clothing and household items/furniture. The non-profit agency may also be able to assist with paying utility bills and rent.

 

 

 

 

The Christian church based agency provides free holiday meals to shut-ins and Christmas assistance (including Angel Tree program) to those in need. Gifts and holiday baskets may be offered. Chester/Newell FISH - They offer a free food pantry, prescription medication and drugs, and assist with providing funds for utility bills. (330) 385-0445

Beechwood Presbyterian Church - (Parkersburg (304) 422-6067) runs a free food pantry. There is also free holiday meals, Christmas toys, and more.
