Salvation Army assistance programs in Panama City and Bay County.

Assistance from the Salvation Army, which is located in Panama City, is available to help struggling families across all of Bay County Florida. Everything from free basic needs to financial assistance for rent or electric bills, spiritual counseling, free school supplies or Christmas toys, and other support is arranged for the client. The case management driven approach is available as a hand up to help the poor, vulnerable, and others get back on track.

Some of the assistance is available year round, and other programs are “seasonal” in nature. Applications are processed in person, after an appointment. When applying for any type of help, bring proof of income, residents, and identification for all household members. This means SS cards, birth certificates, and other proof. Also bring a copy of a lease, doctor prescription, or utility bill if that type of assistance is needed.

Help for kids and seniors

A few different programs focus on both youth and/or the elderly in the Bay County community. The Salvation Army will of course require the child to come from a household with a limited income. But if they do, then they may be able to get the following forms of assistance.

-School supplies – Free backpacks, sneakers, notebooks, pens, pencils, and other items.
-Christmas toys – The Salvation Army Angel Tree is set up in the community. Businesses or individuals can select a teenager or younger kids name to buy a present for.
-Thanksgiving and Easter meals for both the kid and entire family.
-Summer camps that children can go to, which includes field trips, recreational activities, and more.
-After school care is offered by the Bay County Salvation Army to clients, which gives a place to go after the school day.

Senior citizens are also a focus. Many of them may go lonely, or they may have a spouse die and be separated from their kids. Or the Panama City Salvation Army will help provide support such as vouchers for medications to the ill and uninsured, or meal delivery services may help.

The elderly are often the most vulnerable. They often live on a fixed income or Medicare, which is a limited form of health insurance. Others need supportive housing that not only gives them a low cost roof over their head, but it also provides them the care they need. Therefore the church based charity works to meet the needs of these individuals, using volunteers, donations, and other resources.

Additional Bay County Florida Salvation Army social services

There are several. They range from emergency financial aid to disaster relief, counseling, referrals, ministries for men or women, a Family Store which sells low cost goods to the public, and much more. Each of these will have its own terms and conditions, and in general a client will need to apply for any form of social service.

The Salvation Army wants to prevent homelessness. This means there may be some occasional funds (such as money for paying rent or past due utility bills) or the shelter will house as well as feed the currently homeless. Permanent housing (or re-housing) is also stressed too. Any type of emergency financial help for paying rent or bills from the Salvation Army in Panama City is limited. They also have extensive information on utility and cooling bill help in Florida.

When a natural disaster strikes, or if a fire burns down a family's home, then the Salvation Army responds. They do so by giving out water, offering shelter, counseling, and advice. Both the people impacted and responders can benefit.

Low cost supplies can be bought at a thrift store. This is also known as the Panama City Salvation Army Family Store. This particular program has no application criteria. Anyone can stop by to shop for items for their home, personal needs, or buy gifts or toys for others.

Other assistance in the Bay County area of Florida region ranges from a free food pantry to vouchers to buy clothes or household supplies. The Salvation Army is also linked into many other organizations in the community, so they can refer clients to everything from public aid to charities, department of social service offices, job centers, and much more. They serve as a general resource for the community, and will try to help the working poor or struggling no matter their religion or race.
