Salvation Army in Arkansas financial assistance resources.
Residents of the state can call the Salvation Army for material assistance, seasonal services, emergency community support, food, and other aid. A summary of the resources that may be available are below, however each branch listed below in Arkansas may have their own services. In addition, funding is limited and applicants will need to meet fairly strict qualifications.
Probably the material/financial assistance programs are in highest demand, however these will have limited funding and only a small number of people will be able to receive help. Most of the financial aid is only offered if someone is faced with an emergency or crisis situation, which can include things like an eviction notice or utility shut off. Support from this resource can often include prescription medication, Fan Program, free food, clothing, rent/mortgage assistance, and more.
While the Salvation Army in Arkansas can provide shelter and support for those who are currently homeless, people who are facing an eviction may sometimes need help too. So there may be some support, which can include emergency rental assistance, to help people stay in their home or apartment. If they can’t help, then referrals are given to other low income benefits in Arkansas and locally.
Temporary assistance and shelter is available at most locations. Some of the services offered, in addition to the shelter, may include case management, referrals to community agencies, and educational workshops. A clean, safe environment offered by the Arkansas allows for medical observation, transportation, crisis management, and basic job training/education. Free meals are provided as well. Social workers can also offer goal setting, budgeting, and other support services.
One of the keys is also helping people obtain permanent housing. So transitional housing can be provided throughout Arkansas for a period of time, as the client works with a case manager to find more permanent homes. As part of this process some money may be provided for security deposits or first months rent.
Utility disconnection prevention may be offered. Helping low income families, seniors, and disabled in Arkansas maintain their electric and/or water services is important to reducing homelessness and increasing self-sufficiency. The Arkansas Salvation Army seeks to help struggling families maintain these basic amenities and utility services.
Seasonal services are administered too. This can include assistance around the holidays. Celebrating holidays, including Christmas and Thanksgiving, can provide families a sense of peace. So the Salvation Army can provide Thanksgiving and Christmas meals, gifts, Angel tree program, Toys for Tots, and more. The Angel Tree program will try to ensure children have toys at Christmas. Easter baskets may be offered too. Other programs include the fan loan program, summer camp, and heat aid. Read more Christmas money.
Community support services can be provided. This can include referrals, advice, and other support, such as information on public aid and federal government programs and resources such as food stamps and LIHEAP.
Food pantries and soup kitchens can help people keep food on their table, and feed families and their children. From certain centers some meals and food may even be home delivered too, especially to seniors and the homebound. Some locations can also help people apply for WIC or food stamps.
