Free Christmas and holiday programs Allegheny County.

Many charities and churches in Allegheny County provide free Christmas, Thanksgiving and operate holiday programs for families that are struggling. For those that qualify for support, they can get free Christmas gifts, food baskets, presents from the Angel Tree and free toys for tots for children. Low-income families, the elderly and parents with kids have several programs to apply at. There are Thanksgiving or Christmas dinners or turkeys, free Toys for Tots, Adopt a Family and the Angel Tree program in Pittsburgh among other holiday resources. All resources are limited and usually are served first come or served, and some non-profits also have a waiting list.

The items passed out can include boxes of food, meals, groceries, and small toys or presents such as Legos, Barbie dolls, video games, sporting goods and more. Some children may also receive books, games, or full sets of clothing. Volunteers from Allegheny County, local churches as well as the city of Pittsburgh are relied upon to help collect and assemble gifts. Programs include a free food pantry that can have ingredients for a Xmas dinner. Other assistance in Allegheny County includes a Soup kitchen for meals, clothing giveaway drive and Christmas gifts, including for youth and infants too.

 

 

 

  • Other Allegheny County Catholic Charities also help the less fortunate. They serve free Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas meals. Free Toys for Tots in Allegheny County
This is the local version of the nation gift giving program. It has free presents for low income children from Allegheny County that qualify. It is run in partnership with the Marine Corps and churches as well as non-profits. Get free Christmas gifts such as video games or consoles, Legos, trucks or dolls for boys or girls, clothes, winter jackets, books, and so much more. There are multiple application sites. They help the disadvantaged, immigrants, children from single parent or minority households and others. Whether free Christmas toys, or an educational scholarship, help is offered. There may be learning games, books, and similar free Christmas gifts.

If the individual or family used Lighthouse services earlier in the year, then they can participate in the Thanksgiving or Christmas programs. Food, meals, gifts, toys, and games may be passed out.

Union Aid Society

They only offer assistance for the immediate Quaker Valley School District. There may be free Thanksgiving and Holiday gift cards, meals, and other food items for the poor and less fortunate. Throughout the course of the year, the non-profit also provides emergency aid.

Two other government and non-profits operate.
There is the Department of Human Services (DHS) Holiday Project, which is a community donor/Adopt a Family Service. Most clients of it live in poverty. Or try Toys For Pittsburgh Tikes. North Hills Community Outreach
