Hi Patricia and all,
Well of course our site lists a bunch of rent assistance programs - both in all cities, counties, states as well as national options. Those are not age specific though - anyone can apply to those listed here.
https://www.needhelppayingbills.com/htm ... _rent.html
However some national charities and churches try to give priority to "vulnerable people", like SVDP. That charity is here, at
Saint Vincent de Paul rent assistance with all areas covered.

Good evening,
My name is Patricia, I'm 70 years old, live in a senior citizen apartment, until 6 months ago, I have worked & paid my own bills wo any assistance. But now I am struggling to pay the rent. Since May of this year, I have not worked, been struggling to pay my rent. I did get assistance from an organization in September on my rent, but afterwards, to no avail. Either, the funds were not available, etc. Late fees have reduced my ss check to the point I can't pay all of my other bills. I'm not asking for a handout, but I really need help! Not only with my rent, but my electrical bill as well. It's just ridiculous how much TXU charges. I was getting assistance from Baker last year, but this year, they claimed my COLA from the government was 15.00 over the allowance, so, they stopped helping me. I have family members who have been contributing, but they're receiving government assistance as well. Please, if I can get some help, I will greatly appreciate you.

Hello my name is Pamela. I'm 63 years old and live with my daughter. She will be getting married August 21st and I will have to move. I receive SSI my amount is 620. I have been online and looking for so many places that take seniors and that are cheap. Everywhere we go are the places online the rent cost far more than I even make. I need some help to find a place to live and a program that helps seniors pay the rent.. I am scared because I have nowhere to go and a sad income. I am hoping somehow you guys can help me find a place to live with my income of 620. I don't know what to do and I am mentally in a panic state which is getting worse as August comes closer. I hope someone can get back with me and help me with resources so that I can find a place to live.

Hello,
I am contacting you on behalf of my father-in-law. He is 66 years old senior citizen and has been living with us for the past 3 years. He hasn’t been able to pay us much in rent as he is on social security and has no other income other than that. I am trying to help him figure out if he would qualify for section 8 housing or some kind of rental assistance for seniors. What would be his first steps and what kind of assistance can he get if any? What does it take to qualify for such a program? Any help is appreciated.

Hello, I have a question. I just recently lost my job and I am in dire need of help with my rent. I'm not sure who to talk to that helps seniors but I have had a great work history never been in trouble. I'm just going through so much at one time. The other problem is I don't have any children and I'm not sure if there are and programs that help me. I'm a very hard working senior person and I know I'll have a new job soon but I need help now. I would not ask if I didn't. Please help me. I'm 32 and me just need one time help. Please contact me and tell if any help is available for assistance with my August rent, thank you.

Well, try one of the emergency rent assistance programs listed on the site. You may get priority as you are 62 years young. As far as other options, find
senior housing programs from section 202 and other HUD options. They may be a long term solution for you.

Good Afternoon,
I am reaching out to you on behalf of my parents in hopes of helping them find affordable housing with a low rent in Midland, Texas. They are elderly and disabled with a limited income. Any direction you could offer would be most appreciated.

I have to have my rent by Friday or I am homeless. I broke my hand and was unable to go back to work, I have short term disability insurance and they never sent my check I was depending on paying the rent with. I'm battling with them now but I'm out of time and have absolutely no place to go... I am a senior caring for a 7 year old daughter and a set of twin daughters that are 2 years old. I'm desperately needing help before Friday.

I need one time help with my rent. I get 1132.00 per month in income from my pension. I pay 900.00 rent. I am disabled, a senior and I can not work anymore. I live in NEw Hampshire. I just want get enough food in the house so I can get ahead on that. I have copays for medications and due to my disability I must buy them. I need to catch up on my bills so I won't be behind all the time. So if I could get help with rent onetime that will help me to buy food and catch up on my bills. Thank you

I would like some information regarding assistance with rent. My parent, who is a senior citizen and lives in Charlotte with his grandmother, has been unemployed for a long time. He has just been offered a job in western NC and has to move. He doesn't have any money for deposits or first month's rent. Is there any assistance for him?
Thank you,

Most rental and housing programs don't discriminate by age. For example, a senior is not provided housing support that say a single parent is not offered. You need to apply, even if you are a senior on fixed income. Why is the household so large as well? Usually it is just say a spouse and the applicant at that age. Anyway, get more details on our
resources for senior housing.

Hello,
I am a senior single mom with a disabled adult son who receives SSI. We are trying to make it the best way we can with SSI and a little money from my eldest son who works part-time.
I have been trying for over a year to speak with the person who monitors the Senior Program for this area. I have left several phone messages and even left several messages for him at the Unemployment Office here in Annapolis, Maryland. He has never returned any of my calls or responded to any of messages.
I am in a dire situation of financial hardship since I lost my job 2 months ago (no fault of my own). My Unemployment compensation has run out and I am in need of assistance to help pay my rent. My other son is buying a home, but we have to wait until the family who is living in the house now to receive their loan approval for the new house they will be moving to. In the meantime, I still need to pay my monthly rent of $1,320.
I have received a couple of pledges from local resources for September's rent, but these organizations are becoming more & more reluctant to assist because they want to know how I am going to pay my rent the next month? My landlord is working along with me & does not want to see us put out on the street. We have lived here for about 4 years. He is willing to accept partial payments from me and any funding from local or national resources to help me get through this period until we can move to our home.
Do you have any suggestions? I ran across your helpful website this evening.
FYI -- Annapolis, Maryland is located in a part of Maryland where resources are very scarce.
Thank you very much.

I am in need of rental assistance. My bill is high, 645 a month and it is very difficult to maintain payments on rent and electric with a monthly income of 800 dollars a month with a household of 6, including a senior parent. My Girlfriend is also pregnant along with 5 other kids and things are becoming financially unbearable.

There are a few programs focused just on the needs of seniors. In general, the agency on aging centers may be your best place to call, and these are non-profits that offer information, referrals, and other support. While not really offering direct aid for paying rent, they can usually refer people to senior housing and vouchers. One program is very similar to section 8 housing. More details can be found here.

I live in Austin, TX. I rent and have an electric bill over $2,000.00 now. Our income is one check of SSI for 698.00 per month. I also make $80.00 per month. Between rent and medical prescriptions at $7.00 each which comes to an estimate of $84.00 or more and rent is $625.00 per month. I was laid off in January 2010. When I did apply for a job no one responded to me and I have put in 100s. I am in the process of appealing Social Security Disability and hopefully will know the outcome sometime in March. Mean while it is very rough trying to make ends meet and we are failing due to lack of funds. Please Help?!

Hi. I’m writing this email for my mom, she is on social security, SSI. Also on a budget and is a Senior. The problem she has is her and my sister were sharing rent. She left with no notice, now my mom has to come up with all the rent by the First and does not have it. She will be evicted. Is there any one that can help her? I would but I’m not working, waiting for Unemployment. She is sick and so stressed out. Please let me know of any help available. Thank You,
