Hi, my name is Melissa. I am trying to find assistance to pay my storage bill and possibly get my husband some shelter. I am currently in Morristown Post Acute, which is a nursing home. I have Parkinson's disease, fibromyalgia, and am in the beginning stages of dementia. My husband is homeless; he sleeps outside across the street on the park bench so he can be close to me and come visit me every day from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
We were wrongly evicted from our apartment last June, and this is the only storage we have left. I applied for the I Choose Home program, and it looks good so far to be accepted. However, I only have six days to figure out how I'm going to pay my storage bill; otherwise, I lose everything left that I ever owned. This would be the third storage that I would have lost. I really need your help, or please point me in the right direction. I need to know who can really help me.
I am trying my best to get my husband off the street, dealing with all kinds of organizations across the state, but the problem is they want to shelter him too far away from me, and we don't have a car, so he wouldn't be able to come visit me. So he continues to sleep out on the benches across the street in front of Morristown Memorial Hospital. I am really sick but will be moving into an apartment or a house with my husband hopefully soon, and that's the last bit of storage that we have.
The reason it's so high is because Michael uses his Social Security Disability to either pay for a roof over his head for a week or pay for the storage. Sometimes he needs to get off the street to sleep and shower. He's totally disabled himself—he had three back surgeries and has titanium up his spine. He's not good; he should not be outside sleeping on a bench. It is not right, but I can't get anybody to help him close by, or I can't get anybody to help him even with Uber fees or Lyft fees, so that's why he just sleeps on the bench across the street from me so he can see me.
I am really sick. I really need your help. I really need my storage. My father—God rest his soul—his ashes, and my mother and father-in-law's ashes are in that storage. So please, I've had so much loss in the past year. Please, I can't lose this storage too. Please help me figure out how to pay for this. I don't know what to do. I really need your help!

Hello my name is Marvin and I am 45 yrs old and currently homeless and without transportation. I have been living in a hotel for about 6 months now after leaving a shelter and not only is it expensive but has made it impossible for me to save any money to be able to afford the upfront costs associated with moving into an apartment. I am also spending $40-50 per day in Lyft fees just to make it back and forth from work.
I am currently employed at Amazon in Mt Juliet and I have found an apartment at Stewarts Ferry Apartments but I cannot afford all the fees to move in. If I can’t get this to work I will probably need to go back to the shelter. I am looking for assistance to cover those costs and assists with the process of being accepted to move in. Please direct me in the right direction to find the resources that can help me.

Hello! My name is Mallory, and I became homeless months ago after fleeing an incredibly violent situation with my then husband. I'm really working hard to try and get some stability and a place to live and ideally from a DV shelter for people that were abused. I've scraped by enough to almost get an apartment but I lack the security deposit. I found your email address on an online resource list and was hoping you could help me with landing on my feet finally. Everyone deserves a home. I just want to feel stable again and safe.

Hi Annie,
While of course shelter programs are very localized, vary by city/town, etc. the options vary. And you did not indicate where you are. But generally the Salvation Army separates shelters so try them. They are in most communities.

Hello, my name is Annie. My family and I will become homeless on January 10th. I need help with finding a shelter for us please or housing and if a shelter, only for women! I have been trying to look but I don't make 3xs the rent amount and only get 1300.00 a month from social security. I have 4 kids. My landlord moved and let bank auction the house and we need to move ASAP to a shelter then a home. I can pay half of moving cost but I can't find a house. I need help with emergency housing or a shelter. I do not want to be in a male shelter as all my kids are girls. Please and GOD bless you thank you for your time.

My name is Mindy and I was evicted in January 2021 due to domestic violence. I am the victim of domestic violence and I feel like a victim twice due to the eviction reason and now I need a shelter to stay in. The eviction stays of prevention are over and the end of the month I will be homeless. I currently have no electric due to the landlord cutting it off even though it says they are not supposed to. I live in Belle WV 25015 and I am awaiting a decision from social security and I do not have an income. I can only stay in a DV shelter that is confidential.
I have termites and no electricity has caused me to have declining health due to being diagnosed with diabetes and hep C and I a supposed to be following a different diet and learn to eat the things to make myself better and overall sustain my life. Its impossible without the things like refrigerator and stove for cooking as the gas (also heat was turned off as it was in the landlords name when it was below freezing).
Still please help me find a way with the American cares act or some grant to obtain emergency housing in a shelter and assistance. I am 50 years old and have never been through this before. Thank you. God Bless

There are many shelters and short term housing programs in Las Vegas. Homeless shelters, cold weather housing, and more. Most have showers and hygiene supplies too. Find details on homeless shelters in Las Vegas.

I am a single mom of three daughters that is currently getting divorced after taking my girls and moving to a domestic violence safe shelter. We got temporary rent assistance through the SPRF program and were able to move into our own apartment, but between having two babies and a kindergartener as well as not having any support in the area finding a job and childcare has been difficult
My middle daughter has been evaluated as special needs and requires different care and we have many home visits with many different providers through EC Cares as well as Relief Nursery so leaving the girls in another's care has been problematic there as well. Am working on finding suitable childcare and have been applying for jobs regardless but we run out of rent assistance as of the end of June and July 1st have to be able to pay the entire amount of rent. The domestic violence shelter will not work anymore with us. The only income the girls and I receive is TANF through the state currently and it is not enough to cover rent alone as well as utilities. Any information or help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm a single homeless disabled no fault evicted female who is wondering what type of assistance I qualify for. i also need a shelter that separates women. My own research turned up nothing. I can't go to my local shelter if not women only as I was robbed, sexually harassed, verbally abused and treated poorly by staff. I live either on the street or when I get my SSDI check, motels. I've been living this since October of 2015. It's taking a toll on me. I can't possibly save for first last and security and I'm desperately in need of safe housing. I can barely afford the monthly rent. Please help me.

To whom it may concern
I'm from New York City. Once because of domestic violence, my mom and I are the victim. I and my mother and sister live in the shelter for six years ready, we have applied for a Domestic violence shelter program to help us, about fifteen hundred dollars a month, but we have been unable to find any hosing to move out of the Domestic violence shelter program. It’s hard for us to find a house, especially I go to school full time, my sister is working, and my mother’s English is not good. I just do not know what I should do.

To whom it may concern,  I am reaching out to you today because I'm not sure where else to turn for a same * shelter. Here is my situation. My husband and I have fallen on hard times and we have become homeless.  Family pulled together and got us a hotel room for a week. But no longer. Now all the shelters we see would divide us between women and men. Come Sunday at 11am we will not have anywhere to go. We are staying at the Cove Motel in Hamilton and it cost $250 a week.  I have called the homeless shelter here in Hamilton and they don’t accept married couples into the shelter.   My husband has some problems and I am trying to apply for SSI.  He has severe behavioral disabilities on top of other mental and physical problems.  He has severe mixed bipolar manic depressive with PTSD.  He also has separation anxieties and panic attacks which makes it difficult for me to maintain a job, he would walk to my work, almost 8 miles,  and sit in the parking lot till I got off.
I've heard of another shelter in Middletown but they separate the men and the women in different locations.  We have no minor children so family shelters won’t take us either. So, I ask what can we do?  There are no shelters for us to turn to that will keep us together.  With my husband’s mental state, we can't be separated.  We've been married almost 8 years and he wasn’t always this bad he has been thru a lot in the past few years and his condition has worsened as a result.  If there is any kind of help you could offer us we would greatly appreciate it.  I just don’t understand why shelters won’t help keep married couples together.  It's like we're being punished for being married. Please help us keep us together.   You may email us back but we would prefer a phone call.      Thank you for your time and we hope to hear from you soon

Was wondering where to go to apply for help paying my rent. I recently lost my job and close to eviction. I recently lost my father to suicide and struggle with depression. I am also a victim of domestic violence and I did live in a shelter in the past. I am a father to two beautiful girls and don't want to be living on the streets. If there is anything you can do to send me in a direction for applying for assistance. It would be much appreciated.

There are countless short term shelters in New Jersey and nationwide. Some may be for one night, and others can offer help for weeks or even months. What did the social service office say? Is there room in a transitional housing programs? Anyway, call some of the agencies directly as well. Locate shelter and transitional housing programs.

There is one federal government family violence prevention program which offers low income housing and other support, especially to women and children. They can help move people out of shelters into more transitional housing and apartments, so it may be exactly what you need for that domestic violence situation. Also, look into legal aid and representation too. Read more.

I am in a domestic violence situation, I have been awaiting on disability in which I have a attorney. Meanwhile I am at a shelter for domestic violence for women, The Julian Center. Due to being unsafe my family has been torn apart and very scared. I have been dealing with this man for 10 years. The last 2 years I’ve been stalked and harassed. My daughters are terrified for my life. So now being safe is cared for. I am homeless and in need of assistance of any kind in housing. Thank you for reading this.

I have been a resident of NJ most of my life. I paid taxes until I was forced by a disability to stop working. I am on SSDI and my income is below the requirements for housing help. I have been to Social Services offices on many occasions, however I am told that my income is too high. I have been homeless and currently staying with my daughter and her 4 children (one is a newborn), in a small 3 bedroom home. I have over-stayed my welcome and the children need their room back. I need help! Please. Respectfully,

I am in desperate need of rental assistance or info on local shelters. We will have jobs but it just isn't enough to cover our rent. We just moved here in October and we wrecked our car on the way. Looking for jobs has been horrible so we all took jobs at Wal-Mart giving surveys over the phone but we only received 30 hours in 2 weeks and it simply won't make the rent.
