Re: California programs and resources

I'm a single mom that lives in Bakersfield California 93308. I'm on public assistance. I only make 725 a month and I'm in need of a bigger house. I have my 3 children and granddaughter living with me.
I can't afford anything on my own.
Is there anything assistant that can help for rent and my utility bills? Right now I am living in a small 1 room garage that was converted into a small apartment like place. There is 5 of us living in 1 tiny room and we be practically sleep on top of each other. It is too small for my family but I'm on assistance and I can't afford anything on my own.
I need help with my rent in my utilities. I have been looking for work to make extra money so I can get a different place but I do not have a high school diploma so places around here in Bakersfield will not hire me. All I need is something big enough so we can have our own bed to sleep Inn properly.

Re: California government assistance programs

Hi,
I'm living in Los Angeles, California in L.A county , and I was wondering if you could email back with all the government resources that are available. My 3 year old son and I need emergency help with help with rent permanent, emergency housing, homelessness because we're about to be homeless. I just found out that there's resources to help us so I’m not sure how to ask for help with these things nor do I know how to go about it.
Thanks,

I've been falling behind on a lot of my bills. It's hard for me to work much because I have an 8 month old baby and I can't afford daycare in pricey California. I just feel really overwhelmed with my financial situation, like I'm never going to get ahead. I already know my paycheck is not going to be enough to cover next month’s rent and be able to afford everyday necessitates for my child and myself. California is such a difficult place to live. I just don't know what to do anymore.

In addition to DPSS, then try some of the charitable assistance programs in Los Angeles. There are many, with some focused on military families. So they may have money, food, household goods, and more.

The programs for your elderly parents will not normally help with rent. They offer other types of support, such as meal, clothing, companionship, and the like. But maybe they have referrals to other agencies in Los Angeles for those financial needs. It is worth a shot in asking them. There may also be some subsidized housing for seniors in the region, and find all of the aging programs here. http://www.needhelppayingbills.com/html ... tment.html

I am in desperate need of rental assistance. I recently separate from my 2 year old and 3 year old daughters' father and as he left our income left. My senior parents over the age of 73 are no sick too. I’m now 2 months late on my rent of 632 for total of $1264 and have zero cash in my pocket. I’ve gone and contacted several agencies but have not found any help and I’m totally stressing.
Now if that wasn’t enough I’m also having car problems and need to repair catyalic converter on my 2003 Nissan Altima. And to top it all I have no cash and don’t not able to get the necessary things like diapers, toilet paper, dish soap, detergent or any other everyday needs, or care for my elder parents. I’m embarrassed to even face my landlord anymore. I’m terrified to think of being evicted and become homeless.

Hi there,
I was wondering if you could help me find services or assistance with my utilities bills. I live in California and have services with Los Angeles water and power. I am receiving the low income discount and care discount for the gas. I am on food stamps and I am waiting on social security decision for my disability. It is not a lifeline disability as I am not qualified for that discount. Other household members; one is on unemployment ending this month and the other on SSI (senior citizen). We can barely afford the rent and with the house not being insulated and other energy issues the bill has reached such a high amount. I am afraid we will be shut off. I need help. Please help. I am already past due for both utilities bills.
Thank you for time,

The Salvation Army may offer emergency aid in California. At the very least, families can get referrals. They may also help you enroll into job training or similar classes as well, which you may find helpful. But even if they can help, it will be limited. Locate Salvation Army programs for low income in California.

I have a $1400 past due Sacramento utility bill that I can't pay. I bought my house in May 2012. I have had 3 renters since then. Each one was in a difficult position in their life and I opens my door for them. They were to pay $300 a month which would have covered all utility bills. Each of them lived here and promised to pay me. I was taken advantage by all of them. I believed them when they would say” next month, I promise ill pay you next month, I’m trying to find work...

Well, what you are asking for (help with your electric bills) is offered from the city, payment extensions from your energy company and programs such as LIHEAP. There is not really anything specifically for seniors. If you make partial payments on time, such as that $100, then the company may work with you. But you need to show good faith effort. The aging programs in California are here. http://www.needhelppayingbills.com/html ... aging.html

Elderly in California

Post by vianey »

My mother is 82 and disabled, diabetic, high-blood press, dementia getting worse. I live with her in her home and unfortunately her SSI is our only income at present and for the last 2 years. Yesterday I went to the city of Woodland, California utility office with 245.00 on a bill amount due of 402.99, letting them know I could have another 100.00 by Friday the 13th. They said we have had all the extensions we are allowed. We are out of time. What does California have for seniors?

California offers income qualified residents with a number of financial assistance and housing programs. Especially for those with young children or babies like with what you have. You should try to stay with that family while you save money for your own place and get back on your feet. Use that cash assistance while you are living with family members to save money for a deposit. But find information on the resources in your state. Read California assistance programs.

Hello, I've been looking a lot online for some type of housing assistance, or help with financial assistance or anything to keep me & my daughter from being homeless or from having to go all the way downtown to a homeless shelter. I am 22 years old, my daughter is 10 months. I am also currently 7 months pregnant with a baby girl. They have the same father but he doesn't take his part in being a father. I am currently living in my mother's one bedroom apartment in Los Angeles. But she is living with her boyfriend & she texts me everyday telling me I need to get out, I need to find somewhere to go, but I have been trying to find a place to live since around April & I still have had no luck. My mom had told me I don't have much time to find somewhere, my dad won't even let me do laundry at his house & also said I cannot live there again. I only have a few friends, they would help me if they could but they don't have any room in their houses for any more people. I don't speak to none of my family because all they do is make me feel worse about this situation. So they do not help me at all either. I have none to turn to, not even for a babysitter which is why I do not have a job, I don't even have any type of transportation to a job & back. I have no money, not even a few dollars for the bus or to eat. I do have a link card & WIC to feed myself & my daughter, but I can't even afford to buy us new clothes or anything. It makes me feel so horrible knowing its very difficult for me to provide a home for my daughter & soon to be son. I just want my kids to be happy, I should be getting cash assistance soon with my public aid but I have no idea when & how much. But it will probably be just enough to get us by in what we need. I just want my kids to have a home to call their own, I don't want to feel like a horrible mother anymore :( I just want what's best for my children. So if you could please help me in any way, I would greatly appreciate it. But my phone has been messing up which is why I emailed.

We are a family of 7, two adults and kids. ages, 4,6,7,12,15. I am trying to find a place that could help us with school clothing and back packs. Last year I spent over 300 on just school supplies and it was still not enough. The clothes part is much harder seeing as they are all growing. If there is any place in our area of California? We are low income, on SNAP and free lunches for the kids, income is less then 3,000 a month.

California programs and resources

Post by Copper »

I was seriously injured on the job 3 years ago. I am in litigation with workers compensation and have applied for state of California and Federal disability but the only assistance I have received has been through LEAP & a one time payment from the Salvation Army in Los Angeles. I live in a "rural" part of the county and city that seems to be a black hole for assistance. I have a disconnect notice on my electric bill and have had no income coming in for over a year now and I have been dependent upon friends and family. The generosity of my friends and loved ones has taken it's toll on their personal finances. My condition is associated with brain trauma and 24-7 headaches and heat is a serious issue due to work related heat stroke. I also am dependent upon the use of a C-Pap machine for sleep apnea that was also non existent before the accident, so as you can imagine electricity is an essential necessity.

I have a child and I deeply need help with gas. I need help paying all bills as heat, water, rent and help getting daily things such as cleaning products and hygiene products etc. I have a job but no hours. I lack the basic skills of being an adult paying bills and finding jobs. I'm in classes for those... but those help I long term. I'm afraid I'm going to lose my child and home if I can't find resources in California soon.

Hello,
I am in desperate need of some assistance or support. I have an outstanding bill with LADWP in the amount of $992 and have told me my electrical will be shut off. I went into the office yesterday to give $100 towards my balance but them "cannot make payment arrangements" because I had a check returned. I understand this but times have been tough and I made almost half the amount last year as to what I made in 2011. I'm not looking for financial assistance really- just need to see how I can convince LADWP to allow me to make a payment plan that I will stick to. Please help...I have a family and they do not know about this. I can be reached at this email.

PG&E has shut our power off. We have 4 children under the age of 6 (one is 2 months old). My husband was finally able to obtain employment after 2 years of not being able to work. We have used salvation army about 6 months ago and they said today that they are not able to help us again. I contacted Kids First and they told me to go to Salvation Army. We owe almost $600 and PG&E told us we have to pay in full to get our power back on. I don't know what to do, please help.
