My name is Helen. I’m a single mom in Colorado with a nonverbal autistic daughter who faces many challenges. Several years ago, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I was devastated. My parents were already getting older and needed my help. Around the same time, I had just become a grandmother to a beautiful little girl.
I decided to have a double mastectomy after being assured that doing so would give me a 100% chance of survival. After the surgery, I had reconstruction, but I developed a severe infection. My surgeon immediately admitted me to the hospital and removed the implants. I was already crushed by the diagnosis, but when my surgeon told me, “Don’t come back until you have your teeth out and fixed,” I was heartbroken. Still, I did what he said.
Shortly after, I lost my home to foreclosure and my health and dental insurance. My world fell apart. People began judging me for not having teeth. They stared and avoided me. It led to deep depression. I didn’t feel like a survivor anymore.
In 2018, my parents became unable to drive or do their laundry, shopping, or errands. I stepped in to help them through surgeries, recovery, and everyday life—it gave me purpose again. Then, in May 2019, my granddaughter’s parents could no longer care for her. My son asked if they could move in with me. Even though I didn’t have much room, I agreed. Before long, I was doing everything for her myself. Eventually, my son moved out because the apartment was too small. My granddaughter and I felt rejected, but raising her saved my life.
Not having teeth has since caused health problems, including bleeding ulcers. Life has been one obstacle after another, leading to serious financial struggles. I’m on Social Security, which barely covers our needs. Between caring for my elderly parents, my nonverbal autistic daughter, and my granddaughter—who was abandoned twice—I am emotionally and financially exhausted.
This past year has been especially hard. I had to get a car big enough for my parents and the girls. Now, I’m two car payments behind, and my car needs inspection and new tires. My electric, cable, and other bills are all behind. The dental situation makes me sick to my stomach, and I often get nauseous so quickly that I can’t even pull over.
The school system caused even more hardship. My granddaughter was being physically and mentally abused at school. I spent the entire summer working with lawyers because the district refused to let her attend a regular school. I finally got her into a new school she loves, but that fight set me even further behind financially.
Now, the holidays are approaching, and I want the girls to have a good Christmas. They’ve been through so much—they deserve some joy, toys, clothes, and shoes. I work hard every day taking care of my parents and my girls, but I’m overwhelmed and scared.
When I say I need help, I mean it. I don’t even know where to start anymore in Colorado. I feel like a burden, but I’m trying so hard. Despite everything, I’m proud that I got my granddaughter into a better school and that my daughter now has an aide who helps during the week. But my finances are falling apart, and I’m terrified of losing everything again.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story. I’m sorry to bother you, but I’m praying someone can help us or guide me to a place that can.
With gratitude,
Helen

Good morning, This in Merari from Colorado, I'm a single parent with 4 kids. And was needing assistance on applying or how to go by getting help to resolve my issue in this time of need. Normally my children's father helps with all utilities but unfortunately, he's been out of work and theses couple months have been hard feeding my family and paying the bills. And have been going through an emotional rollercoaster. I'm really hoping to receive help or good. Thank you and have a blessed day.

My name is Angel,
Due to the hardship events that occurred within this year, I found myself depressed and drowning in bills due to the loss of employment/ Income. I live in Colorado. I am dealing with grief from the loss of my aunt, being denied unemployment benefits, and eviction. I’m currently housing at a hotel with temporary lodge assistance relief, which ends December 3rd.
I’m reaching out in regard to temporary emergency assistance or any accommodation to help my housing and/or financial situation, deposit, first month rent, moving expenses, or car payment assistance in Colorado. However, I’m not asking for a specific form of support, or to be provided help with each issue. Any assistance or support willing to be provided would be appreciated. The temporary support would act as a step ladder towards regaining stability and balance back into my life, I’m also open to any suggestions or resources that can better my situation.

Good Evening,
I am inquiring for information to assist a resident of Colorado. They live in the Eagle Co area (not sure which county) and are in a very difficult place financially which is adding to extreme emotional distress. I would like to find out what resources would be available to them to help them get back on their feet and stabilize there situation. They could benefit from some financial assistance, they need housing in Colorado, also greatly benefit from financial and emotional counseling. It’s a difficult and delicate situation and I would just like to help them access benefits to ease this difficult time. Please let me know how and where to help them start!
Thank you!!

That is not good if his employer owes two weeks of paychecks. So sorry. But that fact may help you in your application for emergency assistance in Denver.
While $2000 is a lot to owe, maybe some agencies can give a little financial help and help bridge the gap and give you more time.

He has been going to work 5 days a week still but they still owe him two 2 week paychecks. He works at that Patriot Shield Security in Denver Colorado which is all over the news from neighbors complaining about odors coming from the factory and also DEP approved machinery and occupancy permits I guess. They did finally pay him 1 out of the 3 paychecks they owed him but we currently owe a little over $2000 in rent. We both work full time and our rent is $750 a month plus all utilities. If there is any advice you can give me on any charities or programs that can help us, we would greatly appreciate it. We live in Colorado. Thanks so much.

Hi, I am from Aurora, Colorado. I was wondering how I get help to pay my electric bill and my rent and telephone bill. My fiancée got into a real bad car accident back in April of this year and I've been taking care of bills on my own. But now it has gotten to where I can't keep a hold of it. So, I'm seeking help. I have already open one pay day loan. And that makes me feel defeated. So, whatever you can help me with or tell me where to go for help. I really truly appreciate it. Thank you.

Hello, I'm a 30 year old black woman living in Boulder, CO. I am unemployed (I've been looking/applying everyday) and this month I have found myself unable to pay rent or my electric bill. I'm as confused as to who to contact to start trying to get help with rent and utilities this month. Can you let me know of some agencies/programs that can possibly help me within the next week or two? Thanks.

Hi, my husband was injured this past Thursday and his company has decided to not do anything and since a lawsuit will take years we are in very big trouble. We relied on his checks for everything since I don't make anything but spending money. I don't know what to do or where to turn.
We pay $1700 a month in rent alone.
We have bills, 2 children I don't receive any child support for and no idea what to do or what's available for help. I have been applying for jobs everywhere and dropped out of nursing school so I can work 3-4 jobs but we're going to get evicted and have our utilities shut off with no money to pay anything. I'm panicking at this point and really need help or some leads. We are located in Fort Collins Colorado. Thank you.

I live with my sister, brother in law, and 5 kids. He has recently become physically abusive and we are trying to get out on our own, however, we do not have the financial needs to find our own place in Colorado that is safe for ourselves and the children. Both her and I work full time jobs and are making a paycheck, however, they are not enough to keep our heads above water. What are our option?

Well, if the apartment is in your girlfriends name, she may need to apply for assistance. You need to ask Department of Social services how their programs work. But the good news is there are many charities and financial aid programs to try. There are in fact dozens of places to go to, and find financial help in Denver for your emergency needs.

I'm 52 on SSI long-term came with significant other. I want to move from Colorado to California to see my daughter and new grandbaby. Significant other went back to Colorado to retrieve our household belongings but instead called and said he wasn't returning.
I can’t afford to pay rent, food, utilities and deposits so I’ve been bouncing from couch to couch and staying in my car. I’ve been in California now since March 2014 with no luck. If someone could please help in any way at all so I can find a small forever home for myself and my companion dog.

I live with my girlfriend also but life is hard in this times when you don't have money to provide a place or food for your kids. My only question is that if I could get the help I need even though my apartment in Denver is under my girlfriend's mother name which she don’t live here at the moment. Please contact me as soon as possible any of you get this. I can show you my little place if you would like to confirm my word....thanks and have a blessing day.

I live in Denver CO. I was recently displaced due to my previous Landlord illegally evicting me from his unit. I am employed with the City of Denver Colorado and have fallen into a terrible hardship financially. I was going through a double garnishment to which I had to file for a Chapter 13 to have the ability to eat and take care of my children. Being asked to leave and paying a pro-rated rent along with the expense of moving has fallen hard on my family and myself. I was paying $50.00 every week on my Energy bill and at this time not only has the bill transferred over but I stopped paying because now not only is my rent more but I have been trying to play catch up on everything else. Please if there is anything that can be done for me or any resources that can help me would be greatly appreciated. I am at a loss and I am unsure as to what to do. I have pawned all I had of value just to buy groceries and put gas in my car.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Well, there are not any special programs for single women that are divorced. Seniors, disabled, etc. may get special aid in Colorado, but not with your situation. However all hope is not lost. You can still look into all those other non-profit programs, charities, and agencies that operate across Colorado. They have job training, food, utility assistance and more. For example, there are free food pantries all across Colorado. Anyway, find resources and read more.

Dear Sirs,
I recently got divorce after 15 years of marriage. My children are grown and serving in the US Army. I find myself alone with my three tropical parrots, and without a place to live in Colorado. At present I'm living with an American family, but lately I have felt the need to move on. I'm constantly tending to their needs while neglecting my own personal affairs. I was a homemaker for the whole life of the marriage, and I need to start looking up for ways to survive through this very difficult time. I received an "spousal maintenance" but it isn't enough for me to make up the whole amount on rent payments, food, and miscellaneous needs. I will be very appreciative if you could provide me with all the information I need in order to take care of this important matter. I don't want to be a burden, but as for now, I need all the resources that are available for single divorce women like me in order to get on my feet, search for a job and last, but not least prepare myself in some sort of career to become marketable. I appreciate your prompt attention to this message,
Regards,

That is great that you are working, and because of that you are more likely to qualify for rent, food, and other assistance in Colorado. The state and their programs like to see people making an effort to get ahead. Also ,look into suing for that child support, and maybe their paycheck can be garnished. We do have tons of information on Colorado resources and places to call for help. Children are a priority too. Find help in Colorado.

I am a single mother of two children and live in Colorado Springs. I don't have enough money to pay rent because my children's dad just stopped paying child support a month ago. I need about 450 dollars. I am working but it is not enough to pay for everything. We have no food and my car is almost always running out of gas. I honestly don't know what to do at this point especially since I want to go to school this semester and I don't think I will be able to do that since I'm looking for a second job just to pay the bills. I am so stressed out because if I get evicted, I will have no where to go and my children and I will end up living in the car again.

Thank you. I have been trying to get a loan modification, but my lender keeps "losing" my faxes. I can't afford a lawyer.
