As I have written about in the past, I have been going to church a little more frequently. While I am not a big believer in any one type of religious system or belief (which is another story in itself as I think religion also creates many problems), I do believe in a higher power and my trips to Italy, the Vatican and Rome also re-affirmed me belief in it. And with the higher power I think can come a guardian angel. That Angel may be someone who is still alive, or they could exist just in spirit.
Since this is a finance/assistance program related blog, we do need to ensure some of the content is applicable to it. A guardian angel can be helpful to anyone, protect them, and keep them safe. Whether you are low income and struggling, or a middle income family or wealthy, an angel may be there for you. The pope said “‘I send an angel before you, to guard you, to accompany you on the way, so you will not make a mistake’”. And other religions have their own sayings of what a Guardian Angel may do or be.
You may not know what they look like, or what to expect, but they can show up when you are most in need. Maybe your guardian Angel is a stranger. Maybe a friend. Or maybe a relative who is still alive or who passed away. It may be anyone…you never know what to expect. But that Guardian Angel, no matter who it may be or the form they take, is looking out for you.
I plan on going soon to the Middle East…Jerusalem, Israel, and the surrounding area where according to many people (and according to many religious scholars) “it” all started. This should hopefully bring me even closer to a Guardian Angel. I also think I felt one when I was in Rome, the Vatican, St. Peter’s Basilica, and Sistine Chapel. The feeling of a power looking over me at that time was incredible. I felt so close to that higher power.
But people can also find theirs as well in different ways. Whether that is by going to church, whether discovering someone who is in your life today (or was in the past), I think people should never pass up an opportunity to seek their their Angel. Or if they have one already, then be thankful and appreciate that fact that someone is out there, looking out for you.
Angels looking out for you?
Maybe there was a time in your life in which you faced a difficult path. Maybe it was job related, and you needed to make some key decisions or do something at work that would continue to enable your family to eat. Maybe the Angel kept you from surviving layoffs at your company so that you could still afford to pay the bills. Or maybe you faced danger in the workplace or some other point in life. The Guardian Angel may have helped guide and protect you.
Maybe there was a time in which you were on the verge of going down the wrong path in life…such as self-destruction that we wrote about. We also wrote about suicide. Maybe you were a substance abuser who recovered and were about to take that drink again, and the angel protected you. They told you “no”, do not do it. Or maybe you were in a dangerous situation (of your own or others doing) and someone protected you. Maybe you were about to explode in rage and anger and destroy a relationship/friendship/job opportunity, and your guardian angel guided you and stopped you. Or maybe about to steal for your family, or prostitute your body, sell drugs to get money for material goods, conduct risky behavior that puts you into danger, or gamble your money away, and the Angel pulled you back from the brink and said do not do it. As the Pope said, the Angel can help you from making a mistake.
Or a Guardian Angel may just be there to encourage and support you, and give you that extra boost. Maybe they motivated a single mom or dad to keep going for their kids so they could pay the bills. Maybe they in some way helped you start a successful business. Or they helped watch your investments in the stock market to keep your money growing. Or you stumble upon some money, seemingly out of nowhere, when things look bleak. Maybe the angel gave you some funds you needed for a business or advice, or they sparked an idea in your mind or gave you the extra boost of energy to keep going.
I personally have often felt there is someone looking over my shoulder, helping guide and advise me. Maybe it was my immigrant grandmother, or grandfather who I never met as he died 30 years before I was born when he was hit by a train in NYC. Or maybe it is my moms mom (Bop) who somehow is looking after me. Maybe they helped me build my business, helped me stay calm when being bullied in the past and recently, kept me living simply and giving back, etc. Maybe those Angels would help me understand my purpose, and continue to allow me to give back.
I recently had a reason to think about Bop again, my grandmother. How I was there when she took her last breath…even though my sister and I were suppose to go to a movie that night and we unexpectedly left the theater (maybe it was sold out). Maybe some guardian angel ensured I was there when Bop passed, to hold her hand as she drew her last breath, and now she is looking out for me.
I also wrote about perspective. This involves realizing that life goes on in the grand scheme of things, that people often have it worse, and that things often get better. There were times in my life when I think my Guardian Angel was really looking out for me…especially the time when I came within maybe a few seconds of dying in a head on collision.
I like to believe many of us have someone out there, our Guardian Angel. I think they help us from making mistakes (like the pope said) but also encourage us, push us, and cheer for us. Maybe the Angel is someone who has passed away, or maybe the Angel is someone who is still alive today. The person can be cheering us on from a distance, caring and protecting us, and putting positive thoughts into our heads. I hope that every reader of this blog finds that Angel to help them to keep going forward and to be safe.
