1.2 jobs for every unemployed worker in December 2018

The job market continues to boom. As we have been writing about for a couple years now, the economy is on fire. In fact, as of December 2018, there are 1.2 jobs available for each unemployed person in the US according to the JOLTS report which was released yesterday. Incredible!

This means if you don’t have a job, there are literally 1.2 positions available and waiting for you. A total of 7.3 million jobs are available in this country, in all sorts of industries…manufacturing, travel, social services, health care, professional businesses, technology, etc. etc. Every single industry is at a record number of job openings.

There are “only” 6.3 million unemployed people in the US. And as mentioned there are 7.3 million job openings. This means each person has 1.2 positions to choose from. So if you are unemployed you could in theory get 1.2 jobs!

Now experts say most of those 6.3 million who are unemployed are not working for specific reasons, such as they left a job and are waiting on a new position to start, sick, disabled, on drugs/pain killers (opiods as we have written about), or in job training programs, are caring for someone, are doing something else. Of course there are some who don’t want to work. But those 6.3 million people should not be unemployed due to lack of opportunity.

While everyone who wants to work can easily get a job, we also have information on other ideas to make money. As working a side gig, monetizing a hobby, or doing other things can always bring in a few extra bucks.

The needhelppayingbills site also has information on job training programs. Or learn about scholarship programs for low income students or anyone who wants to improve their education. There are also job skills as well as vocational resources available.

As while the job market is on fire and there are more jobs available than people to work them, it is always a good idea to always try to get more skills. Learn something new as it can open the door to a better job with more money, responsibilities, titles, and other benefits.
