A community action agency provides financial help with bills or housing, including grant money, while helping people gain self-sufficiency. The non-profit organizations are located in every city and county. The non-profit, government funded community action agencies (CAA) that will be near you were created to help low income families overcome their hardships or exit poverty. The services are paid for by the government as part of CSBG, but the grant money is distributed on a local level. All of the agencies offer numerous social services to people as well as families who need help. The case managers from the organizations offer temporary financial help from hardship programs. When direct support is offered, it will come with an extensive application process. All resources are limited and funds are usually issued on a first come and served basis to qualified residents. Many of the applicants tend to be the unemployed, low income families, single parents, gig workers and others.
