Hello, my name is Terica. I am a 37-year-old veteran and a single mother looking a market based rental home available now. I have a 16-year-old and a 4-year-old. The property I was renting is being sold. I’ve been looking for a home to move in ASAP, but no one wants market-rate tenants—they only want Section 8. I have to be out by October 1.
I just had emergency surgery. I’m suffering from depression. I’m on anti-depressants, but they’re not helping. I’m at a loss right now, trusting God every second. Everyone says to ask for help. I’ve asked. I’ve told people I’m depressed. I’ve tried looking for shelter with no luck. I was even scammed—thinking I was going to move in after starting to paint and prepare—only to be told I couldn’t.
I’m hurting, but I can’t show my kids. I became a ward of the state at the age of 16, and I have no family to help. I’m trying not to fold and give up. I’m holding on by fumes, trying not to have a nervous breakdown. I’ve never gotten anything easy. I’ve worked hard just to survive and make it.
I won’t let my kids be in the street. I would take us all to a better place before I do that. I have to move an entire house, and I can’t lift 5 lbs—with nowhere to go. I’m in tears. I hurt so badly. I’m in Saint Louis, Missouri. Why is this world so evil and money-driven?
I hope you can help me. I have reahed out to all resources that are available. You have to know someone to really get utility help—they say they have your application, but they never process it. I don’t have anyone to pass a favor for me and my family.
Please help us.
