Hi there,
Welcome to the US and to Texas! immigrants built this nation, and we think the current environment is tragic, short sighted, and will hurt the US over the long term as we loss talent. But we "rant"! As far as your question, here are a bunch of Texas assistance programs to try, including in Houston and statewide.
As far as some of your employment rights and work permit info, we found this resources for you. https://www.uscis.gov/green-card/green- ... n-document

We are immigrants in Texas who want to be sufficient

Dear Sir,
My family and I, include my wife, a 3 year old boy, a set of twins about 3 months old infants delivered here in Houston Texas.
We came into the State as documented immigrants about 3 months now to have our babies following a threat back home in my country from my wife relatives who came to our house and stole about 5000 dollars from our home. The case was charged to court while we left my Country because of constant harassment and threat by the person family and gangs. Due to this incident my wife developed pregnancy complications and was delivered at about 36 weeks via emergency operation.
Here in Texas, we have been victims of people who ripped us of our hard-earned money to survive here in the States. We got plans to stay by enrolling to do a higher degree, but things are becoming very difficult because we have exhausted our money and no job because we do not have socials security and work permits due to the immigration status.
Also, we try not to take government assistance so that our immigration status will not be affected, especially in the state of Texas and with Trump in office. As we are a visitor with intention to change status via our admission into school.
Hence, we are soliciting your help in order for our rents to be pay and other utilities while still looking for a job.
Thank you.
