Get help with paying bills or free stuff.

Hello, my name is Denzell. I am trying to get on a payment plan for my electric but the down payment requested to start the plan I cannot meet. I have half of it and am trying to find help w the 2nd half. I was on a payment plan since winter with energy services for the last 7 months and made every payment. We recently went out of town for a death in the family and a funeral and I missed the payment due date by 5 days.
When I called to explain to them why it wasn’t paid and tried making the payment they informed me my plan was defaulted and I have to get on a new plan. The amount sown they need is 515$ I on my have the $230 that was due. I have tried both energy service’s and St. Vincent DePaul but because they helped me in January but they can help me now. I have not had this happen before. I was hoping considering the death and reason they would work with me on being a few days late. But they will not. I'm hoping you can help. With us taking off work for the week of the funeral we are now goanna be behind on other things as well. Thanks for help.

My name is Eunice and I currently live in Newark New Jersey and I am behind on a payment plan with my utility company. I work freelance jobs but fall 2 months behind of my utilities not counting this month. I am looking for assistance in from of utility help or even a loan or a new payment plan. Please let me know what organization I can contact to receive assistance. I am trying to avoid getting an eviction notice from my landlord. I have a job interview tomorrow and hopefully will get opportunities this year to work with past companies through contract.

There are other utility assistance programs in the state - not just the payment plan from your provider. Look into some of those to help you with your utility payment. Find NJ utility assistance.

Even though the entire complex's tenants were given new leases with rent and utilities included that are equal to my program. M HUD housing specialist ignored my pleading to get in on it and I've not even had a lease for over 2 years or an annual HUD inspection since 2019.
I am disabled, but have absolutely $0 income and apt is substandard condition wise and it's been years.
I've contacted any and all agencies you'd imagine, but it's not gotten better as far as getting a payment plan for utilities.
I'm terrified soon I'll have just a "cave" without a way to get warm, cook, have hot water, electricity....its hard on me.
In June I applied to Lima eviction prevention program, but was without phone, and never heard again from Mike after first part of September about any help. Guess they denied me.
Swanson Gas bill is over $600 and TEP apps $300 both with disconnections promised for months.
What do I do?

Most utility companies offer some form of payment plan. Why are they denying you? Maybe talk to a free lawyer or a community advocate too. But until then, find how to get help from your utility company.
