North Raleigh Ministries financial aid programs.

Using donations and money raised from the thrift store, North Raleigh Ministries provides assistance to people in Wake County, with a focus on the northern portion. The non-profit charity provides emergency aid for basic needs, ranging from food to rent and utility bills help. The staff also have referrals to other local churches and charities in Raleigh.

The North Raleigh Ministries Crisis program uses proceeds from the store (mentioned below) and puts the money back into the community. It does so by providing financial assistance as well as cash grants to qualifying Wake County residents who are experiencing situations of crisis. While everything does depending on funding levels, examples of specific services include assistance with prescription medication, utility or cooling bills, back rent, and even mortgage payments.

Volunteers from the ministry are trained to accomplish the greatest good with the resources available, by first assessing critical needs, and then making arrangements for payments. Any money provided by the agency will be made directly to utility companies, landlords, mortgage providers, or a medical provider. North Raleigh Ministries views helping neighbors as a privilege and a sacred endeavor.

An interview, intake, and assessment needs to occur. In order to schedule an appointment with a crisis center volunteer, call 919-844-6676 Mondays and Thursdays at 10am. Appointments are scheduled on a first come, first served basis, and funds are limited. Proof of hardship and documentation needed includes, but is not limited to, copy of current signed lease or mortgage agreement, Social Security cards for all household members, Documentation of the cause of the emergency, such as death in family, car repair, etc.

Another service is the Circle of Hope Program. This component has been providing support and faith based encouragement to Wake County North Carolina households facing a crises that may lead to the possibility of becoming homeless. Priority will be on the most vulnerable, such as single moms, and the ministry will also support veterans. Circle of Hope works to help people pay the rent or mortgage, and help them regain financial stability by developing a circle of social support and resources.

The Jobs for Life Class in Raleigh is a form of case management and job placement. JFL is a course that teaching life skills and provide the tools necessary for dealing with the challenges that can stop people from reaching goals or improving their income.




Counselors from North Raleigh Ministries provide clients with work-readiness skills, including interview practice sessions and strategies, resume creation and vocational plan development are also included. Each student is paired with a mentor or professional teacher, who offers support and friendship throughout the course and after the student gains employment.

Food is provided from a pantry or the BackPack Buddies Program. This provides support for children from low income families, and it gives them free food and hot meals, amount other aid. Also, the Neighbor-Choice Food Market is a client-choice food pantry in Wake County.

The center is set up like any other food pantry in the city or county, and clients can shop and select their own groceries or canned items to use for their family, rather than being furnished with pre-made food packages. The goal is to provide assistance, including for the holidays, to those in need in the most dignified manner possible.

The North Raleigh Ministries Thrift Shoppe is based at 9650 Strickland Road. It operates as a  well-organized store stocked with gently used, high quality merchandise that is sold at affordable prices. Everyone is welcome to come in and shop for shoes, furniture, clothes, Christmas presents, books, toys, and more, all shared by our generous donors. All proceeds from the Thrift Shoppe are used to finance the activities of the Crisis Center and the Food Market, such as the emergency financial aid noted above. In addition, the shop provides a variety of free items or gift certificates/vouchers to clients who are in need.
