Find help for paying your mortgage, rent, and energy bills in Greer

The Greer Relief and Resources Agency is a local organization that provides thousands of dollars in aid to those who need help every month. However, they are starting to have to turn away people as the demand for its services is so great. They provide grants and money to help pay for rent, utility bills, and mortgage assistance.

The good news is the organization will be receiving $30,000 in federal stimulus money from the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. This will allow them to continue to offer many programs. The federal government grant would be county-specific, with $18,000 going to help residents in Spartanburg County and $12,000 going to help residents in Greenville County.

The traffic in Greer Relief's food pantry has increased by more than 70 percent since 2007. Last month the agency provided clothing, food, rent help, and financial assistance to almost 700 people.

Every day people cram into Greer Relief's lobby on Victoria Street, some many people needing help with paying multiple bills. Rising local unemployment is the top reason why clients can't pay their rent or energy bills, as many people have already maxed out their unemployment benefits or have seen them expire. Dial the Greer Relief Agency at (864) 848-5355.

Some of the other agencies to call for Emergency assistance in Greer South Carolina include.

  • United Ministries - Phone (864) 232-6463
  • Catholic Charities - Dial (864) 242-2233
  • Salvation Army - Call (864) 235-4803

All three of these non-profit organizations can provide one or more of the following. Access to programs such as LIHEAP or direct grants for energy companies to help pay utility bills, free food, information on free health and medical clinics, and even medications. Some times funding will be limited, but even if they do not have money as the demand is always high, they can refer individuals who need help to both South Carolina and federal government assistance programs and resources.
