If Chris hasn't already, he may want to check with Tangipahoa Parish Habitat for Humanity and also the Louisiana Housing Corporation at https://www.lhc.la.gov/. Sometimes they know about down payment assistance programs for first-time homebuyers.
He should also ask his lender if there are any state, parish, or employer-sponsored programs that can be layered into the mortgage before closing. A lot of buyers don't realize those programs exist until someone points them out.
I don't know of any charity that will simply provide $2,300 for a down payment, but hopefully someone from Louisiana knows of a local church, civic group, or housing program that may be able to help before the closing date.

Need help in Tangipahoa Parish - Where to go?

Greetings:
I am reaching out to you regarding my friend and one of my heroes, Chris. He is truly an awesome human being, and I am blessed just to know him. Chris by nature is a very caring individual. He's the single dad of his beautiful 10 year old daughter Calen, kidney donor, a licensed practical psych nurse, & amazing dude.
He's purchasing a home in Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana and requires assistance with the remaining down payment balance of $2,300.00.
This will be his first home--he and his daughter deserve it--always helping other he has never truly had his own and now lives with his mother. They never have privacy. After the storms hit Baton Rouge a few years back, he opened his home twice to an acquaintance who ended up mistreating his daughter and stealing from him and a relative who didn't fully carry their weight all the time.
He has endured so much--he had financial and medical obstacles post his kidney donation to a former friend (the kidney recipient betrayed him after the donation in several ways--but he doesn't let that deter him from helping others); currently he cares for his mother also in Tangipahoa Parish who has a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer (his sister has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer); and is currently undergoing a transition at his current job which is affecting his finances.
This selfless and giving man deserves a break; if there is any way possible; could you please help him and Calen realize their dreams by donating on his behalf the appraisal fee and/or a portion of the down payment of his home? This environment would provide his daughter more stability and help her grow as a student.
I have cc'd him on this email since you would need to obtain information from him if you are able to assist. His scheduled closing date is 01/21/2026.
Thank you for your time, patience, and consideration regarding this matter. Happy holidays to you and your family and a joyous New Year.
Sincerely,
