To those who are willing and able to help us,
I’m not sure exactly how to go about this. I’ve always been a very strong and independent women who manages to figure things out on her own. Unfortunately, I’m beat and I have nowhere to turn. I have a teenage son and a pre-teen daughter. in Nashville. Paying rent and keeping food on the table has been a struggle. I work three jobs and I still can’t afford to catch up on my rent.
I know exactly how I came across this really bad situation. I hate to say it is partially my fault and the residential building I live in is fault.
About 10 years ago I applied for a 2-bedroom apartment through the housing connect portal. After waiting for a decade, my log number was reached. I was extremely happy. At the time I was with someone who was able to help me pay rent and we seemed like such a happy well-plus family.
Long story short we are no longer together.
I’ve been living in my building on the outskirts of Nashville for over 3 years. During our third year here, I was pregnant and lost the baby during my last trimester which took me through a tough time to mentally recover. At the time my partner lost his job. His boss just decided to shut down the pharmacy and relocated and gave my partner at the time a 2-day notice.
I was still healing and trying to recover from my loss and surgery.
Being this was so sudden I had to suck it up and find a job.
Through gods’ eyes I was able to land a job within that week.
I had to mask everything up. I couldn’t show that I was always in pain and that my heart was completely shattered from losing my baby.
Instead, I was hired as a Catering Sales Manager which means that I would always have to smile and make every client’s interaction with me a magical one.
I love my clients now and I’ve grown up with them now that they all know what I had to go through and always state I am strong. If they only knew the hard nights of crying and asking God to please give me strength and to help me take care of my kids!
My faith has never left!!
As time passed the apartment started to show its true quality. I started getting mold on the floors and my appliances were breaking down. The walls crack and paint chipped.
I can count my fingers on how many times I had to trash my groceries from the refrigerators being inoperative. I send ticket after ticket.
I sent our building emails in regard to these issues. After some time, the building finally decided to send someone up to fix our floors. Everything else was still not handled. After about 2 weeks the floors started molding again and now it is traveling throughout the apartment.
After explaining to the building, they never sent anyone to assist with any of our ongoing issues. I decided to hold back rent. Two months and nothing taken care of. I started noticing my son and daughter started waking up with sore throats and stuffy noses and just congested. Now it was due to ventilation issues.
I took my kids to the doctor, and my daughter now has severe allergies, and my son now has asthma.
My kids were always healthy.
Moving forward on June 26th, 2026, my neighbor called me and told me to take that notice off my door because no one needs to know my business. So instead of them fixing my problems they decided to put a notice on my door. A notice dated June 18th I have 14 days from this note to pay my rent or else I’ll have court notice.
I don’t have that money, being the money I had saved I had to put towards my car that broke down in Delaware after visiting family.
I’m in what they call a hole!
I don’t know what to do. I spoke with my boss and asked for an advance which took a lot out of me. I have not received an answer, but I know I can’t afford to get put in the streets with my kids.
I have no money to pay rent or even celebrate my son’s 14th birthday which is July 23rd.
He’s a great kid and deserves a birthday cake at least.
I’m sorry for the long email I never know how to really explain what I’m going through being I always - keep my struggles to myself.
