Looking for Emergency Rental Assistance for a Client

Post by cat1 »

I am a Social Worker for The Salvation Army in Sevierville, TN. I have a client that is need of assistance
with her rent to prevent eviction. She has tried the two local agencies
that are known to help with rent. The first, Smoky Mountain Area Rescue
Ministries, gave her the following phone number 865-982-7616 and told her
that they couldn't help her because she didn't have any income. She called
this number and received a message stating to call back after January 6th
and there was no further notice or number to advise her to do anything
else. The other agency, Douglas Cherokee, told her that they could help
her with a $50 voucher. At this point, she is five weeks behind in her
rent- which is $125 a week and $50 will do very little to remedy the
situation. My client was fired from her job on December 10th 2010. She
had a discrimination suit against the company and since they fired her is
not eligible for unemployment at this point. We have looked through your
website and do not see any specific agencies in our area that will further
assist her. Could someone get in contact with her to let her know if there
where she can go in our community to receive help with her rent?

There are some local eviction prevention programs in Sevier Tennessee. Sounds like you have made many of the correct calls and steps already, but there are some other options for you. Here is a link to them.
Try other organizations like the Sevier County Neighborhood Center - Douglas Cherokee Economic Authority, which has some limited housing funds. (865) 453-7131. The Douglas-Cherokee Economic Authority, Inc. is another good place to call.
