Resources for property taxes for seniors

I would like to know whether there is assistance state, local, or even Federal for the state of Virginia for Real Estate Taxes. I am not quite a senior citizen yet. I am 57. I was laid off around year 2000, and did some teaching but not able to stay on with teaching. So now I substitute teacher which does not sustain me. My father was helping, but he has now passed away this past May. My income is fairly low. Is there any assistance with low income for property real estate taxes, or even with paying other bills such as utilities, etc.?

We don't issue loans. Unfortunately property tax assistance is very rare, if it exists at all. While challenging assessments is common, if you owe money then not too many programs (if any) will offer funds to pay a bill. Also, what state? Regardless wry non-profit HUD counseling for homeowner issues. More info is here. http://www.needhelppayingbills.com/html ... _help.html

Good morning,

I live in Carol Stream, IL. Me and my family of 4 moved into a house in Carol Stream last year and our taxes have increase both years. Also, with the federal tax increase last year, we're simply unprepared to pay this much increase. We were just able to afford our mortgage and tax payments when we moved in but now with these increases, it's really put us in a difficult position to make these payments every month.

If there are programs or tax breaks that are available, I would be very interested to hear them or to seek counsel with someone and discuss our situation further.

Thanks,

I am having problems paying my property taxes. I am a 30 year old female and I am disabled. I had the money saved but we ended up paying for my daughters surgery on her mouth all 4 wisdom teeth had to come out. I don't no what else to do. My property taxes are 395 for the year and we only get 99 dollars for three people for food. I don't want to lose my property home but I have to feed my family. Also can you please help us. Thanks and god bless. We live in Fort Myers Florida.

Dear Sirs,

I’m writing you in need of assistance regarding my delinquent property taxes.... I am employed for the State of Iowa threw social services as a case manager which involves caring for the elderly. I receive 740.00 a month from my job. I’m currently delinquent on my Property taxes and ready to be forced out of my home. I have rang the bell for the Salvation Army in the past, so I turned to their organization and wasn't very successful there, due to not falling in the category. I’m in need of assistance or some guidance on how to go about paying my delinquent property taxes and not losing my home. If you could please respond to my e-mail with any helpful information concerning this matter, it would be appreciated.

I am inquiring about assistance for my aunt who has been denied disability from the social security administration and is currently unable to work. She is currently behind on her property taxes and utilities. She also has a gas leak that has caused her not to have gas in her home for a few years now. I have done all that I can to assist but with a limited income myself there is only so much I can do. Is there an agency that can offer her some assistance so that she does not lose her home?

How can you be paying $900 per month for taxes. Doesn't make any sense. Way too much. Look into the assessment on your home and challenge it. Tale to your local assessor, look into tax rates, and heck, move if the property is really that high. We have information on steps to take, options, and other support here at Tax help page we have on the site. Good luck to you. Also try calling a credit counselor in New Hampshire.

No, we can't pay off property taxes. We do not provide cash to anyone. We only offer information, guidance, and support to people who are looking for help. So, that being said, here is information for some places to call in Davidson County and Nashville Tennessee. Look for some health care for your parents, medications, and who knows, maybe someone will have some funds for those property taxes.
JohnJackson wrote:Dear Sir/Mam...I live in Nashville, Tennessee. I am contacting you on behalf of my senior citizen parents. They are both over 65 years of age. Their sole income is their social security. I am contacting your office asking for financial help to pay off their property taxes in the amount of $1050. My mother was recently admitted to the hospital for hip replacement surgery and she has to go to physical therapy two to three times a week. Before she was admitted to the hospital for hip replacement surgery, she had to be admitted to the hospital for a flu type sickness. My dad is not in the best of health either. He has a heart problem and high blood pressure. They cannot afford to pay their property taxes because of medical expenses and prescription drug costs and other expenses. I am hoping your office can ease their financial burden and pay off their property taxes this year. I really would appreciate it. If you have any questions please call me. I also would like for you to contact me by E-mail as well to let me know if you can help my parents. Thank you for your cooperation. Sincerely

They will not let me make payments on 2010 which has to be paid in 2011. Someone bought the certificate and now taxes for 2011 that has to be paid in 2010 will need to be paid. If I can't pay them the guy who bought the certificate will get it in 2013. I need help for 2010 it is 634.00 2011 is 340.00..Please I don't want to loose my dad house. Its paid for.

Many agencies do not provide help for paying property tax bills. The best thing to do is to call your local town assessor and ask for an installment plan. Also challenge your assessment value in order to get your taxes lowered for the following years. It is free to challenge a home's assessed value. Learn more on here and find tax help and tips and tricks.

We do have extensive information on property tax assistance programs, tips, and tricks. Yes, people can lose their home to foreclosure if they can't afford to pay their property taxes, so it is very important that people keep up with them. Just as important as paying your parents mortgage. Find our listing of assistance with property taxes, including consultants, challenge taxes, and other ways to find help. Always call your assessor too to challenge the assessment and to get a lower property tax bill.

So what do you need mortgage help for if you own your home? I guess we are confused here. Is it just the property taxes? Maybe look into an installment plan in Berks County. Or get a new assessment of property. Find our other list of tools to get help with property taxes. While much relies on your local government, homeowners and families do have some options available to them, like installment plans, challenging assessment, and much more.

My property taxes fell behind, and the agencies keep telling me they can help with mortgage payments or rent payments even my own church says this; but they will not help me because my home is owned outright (my dad paid it off in 1989 before he died) WHY ARE THERE NO AGENCIES TO HELP ME, AND OTHER OLDER WOMEN LIKE ME? They would rather put us out of our homes and make us homeless with our belongings in a shopping cart, then help us stay in our homes?

Owing $6000 in back property taxes is a lot of money. But you do have some options for this type of situation. There are installment plans, contest assessment, and consultants who can argue on your behalf. Find how to get help with back property taxes. Probably the best solution is to enter into a property tax installment plan, which means you will need to pay a portion of the bill over many months and years. And you need to stay on track and not miss a payment on the installment plan for property taxes.
