Medical condition behind on mortgage

Post by Smithie »

Hello:
I need mortgage assistance help. I have already received a foreclosure letter from the attorney's office and would like to stay in my home. We initially got behind because our 17 year old had to under go unexpected open heart surgery due to a congenital birth defect. My income has increased and we can make the regular monthly
payment however we are 5 months behind and are having difficulty getting caught up. So we can pay the mortgage OK going forward. Please contact me via email. Thanks in advance.

Some banks and lender will offer special mortgage assistance programs if lack of payment is from a medical emergency. So it is worthwhile to look into. Counselor can guide you in the process. I think call a HUD foreclosure counselor to ask about these types of medical programs for delinquent mortgages. Also call your bank or lender. It is definitely worthwhile to at least call and look into options and programs.

Re: Medical condition behind on mortgage

Hello,
We live in Houston, TX. MY relative went to the emergency room with sudden onset of a medical condition, where she has remained hospitalized and will be for several months. Her mortgage is with Wells Fargo. She has some equity in the home. She had a bankruptcy over 8 years ago and at that time she had payments to the IRS. She likely owes the IRS at this time, as she is self-employed, though medical bills may offset that (if she can pay them). She averages about $34K a year in income, we believe to best of our info. It is variable. It is never enough. I know because I have two jobs that total about the same thing. She had Medicare A & B, but there will be lots and lots of bills from the hospital stay not covered.
Her mortgage payments were up to date at the time she went in the hospital, and I had been told by Wells Fargo she had paid pretty consistently, though I noticed not all her utilities were quite up to date. I am trying to remedy that, but have also had some turned off until she is home. The mortgage payments are $508 a month. She had no savings. I have had to scrape around to get money to keep Wells Fargo from foreclosing, even though she has not been more than one month late since her hospitalization. I applied to them for hardship accommodations and have done everything they asked multiple times in writing with my Power of Attorney, and yet after weeks, they have failed to even assign the case to a processor or to forestall movement toward foreclosure. They send letter after letter asking for the same thing, just as if I hadn't already talked and written to them dozens of times. Realizing this hardship deal with Wells Fargo was going nowhere, we sold little rings and things our mom had given us over the years for gold to raise the May payment. Then seeing that that didn't slow Wells Fargo down, my sister, once she was out from under the ventilator, which has only been recently, borrowed money to pay the June payment from her court reporter clients. For the next week, we are up to date, and then we will be in arrears again with no way to pay. I MUST use my money to pay for her $362 Medicare Part B payment because she is still in the hospital running up a huge tab. I am neglecting paying my taxes in order to try to keep a roof over her head and her Medicare paid up. Meanwhile, Wells Fargo sent out an inspector who left a note on the porch, and I'm told they're going to charge my sister for that. It was supposedly to make sure the place wasn't left unlocked. I have told them in multiple recorded conversations and in writing that I am looking after her cats over there, going over there at least every other day. At the time they sent this guy out, she was officially paid up, and they had no right to charge us for that. It can be up to $1000. I am at the end of my ideas and very disgusted with Wells Fargo business practices.
She needs temporary assistance paying her mortgage payment. She will likely need 2 months' paid since once she is back, let's say, in a month, it takes about a month for her to get paid by the court reporters she does transcription for. If you have any ideas, please do contact me. I can't believe this mortgage holder is so unethical as not to do a simple hiatus on her payments until she is out of the hospital. My mortgage company wouldn't be nearly as hard to deal with. They used to put coupons in each payment book in the event someone had a bad month, they'd add it to their last payment.

I am asking in behalf of my sister. She is 53 and has a lot of health issues, so along with medicaid, she must have regular insurance for infusion treatments done in her home on a monthly basis. Her monthly payments are high and she gets help in various places, but it is a real challenge. Our mother passed away almost 3 years ago and she lives in her home, but beyond that she gets very little help from work that she does online. Is there anything that can be done to help her?

We have a comprehensive listing of how to get mortgage help in Missouri. There are a large number of agencies, programs, and resources. Some are offered by the state of Missouri, and others but agencies like HUD approved housing. Places like Consumer Credit Counseling of the Midwest (800-355-2227) or Clearpoint Financial, both of which offer free foreclosure counseling to Missouri homeowners. Call 877-877-1995, or find the Missouri HUD agencies.

The cleanliness of the house, not sure about and can't comment. However if you are behind on home loan or mortgage payments, that we do have information on. Find a listing of mortgage assistance programs by state, county, from banks, lenders, etc. Read more mortgage assistance programs. There are programs like Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America or federal and state government housing aid. And call your lender for help with those moving costs to Tampa too. Some mortgage lenders/banks can pay money to help get someone rehoused.

Good evening, my name is Martel & I had a few questions related to your organization. I have a medical condition and now struggling with a mortgage. I was reviewing your site and I was wondering does your organization provide financial assistance for people that are behind in their mortgage payments and/or utility payments that are Baltimore City Residents? If so, what doing I have to do to apply? If not, then can you point me in the direction towards the organizations that do so? This is an urgent matter for myself & my family. We are facing a crisis with a potential foreclosure and multiple utility turn offs (BGE & Water).
