Requesting information about Lheap in Louisiana - In danger

Post by GeorgeDep »

Hi. I applied to my local center here in Jefferson parish, Louisiana for
emergency help with my Entergy bill. Entergy is claiming that my electricity
will be interrupted if payment is not made after the due date of May 23rd. They
say my electricity will be shut off on the 24th if payment has not been made.

I applied for emergency help at the Dorothy Watson Community Center. They won't
help me. They say that they need a copy of the disconnect notice. Entergy,
however will not supply this and claims they have no record of this disconnect
notice in their system, but I will still get cut off on the 24th if payment is
not received. The representative at the Dorothy Watson Center will not help me
because I cannot produce the disconnect notice although I have a bill with past
due in bold letters.

Is there anything else I can do? And is this correct that I cannot receive any
help if I do not have the disconnect notice? I can't produce it, Entergy will
not produce it .. they say they don't have it in their system and cannot
generate a disconnect notice without it being in their system already.

Thank you for your response.

How could they not have the disconnect notice? Entergy needs to provide that. I think you have come to the right place to look for help. First of all find Jefferson Parish assistance programs and agencies in the area which can help you avoid the disconnection. Call non-profits like the Jefferson Community Action Programs (JEFFCAP) (504) 736-3900 which runs programs like the Home Energy Assistance Program. Also on the main site get information on utility disconnection laws in Louisiana, as it sounds like what they are trying to do is illegal. And find financial assistance programs from Entergy as well.
