Need help with bills in Corpus Christi and where to go?

Post by Henry Miles »

Hello,
My name is Edward. I am a 43-year-old male that lives outside Corpus Christi. It is 35-40 minutes west of downtown Corpus Christi. A rural area. I have gone through 2 FAILED transplant surgeries within an 11-month period in February 2022 and again January 2023. It is a 12hr surgery on my pancreas. I have had chronic pancreatitis since I was 13 or 14 yrs old. That progressively got worse and in the last 4 years the pain and inflammation will not go away or calm down.
It is pain 24hrs a day 7 days a week. I lived in the ER, ICU, and stayed up to 2 month stays at a time for 2 years. There is nothing they can do for me anymore. I bled out and coded both operations, so they had to immediately stop the bleeding and show me back up. I had a feeding tube in for 1.5yrs and in a pump that fed it into my intestines 16hes a day. I am in a bunch of medication that allows me to halfway function and not go to the ER every other day. Some days are impossible, so anyways I am permanently disabled and only paid $1,128 a month.
I live in a 2br 1bth townhouse west of Corpus Christi and my rent is as cheap as renting a room.$675, but when you are on disability it is a ton. My electrical runs $70-$100 in summer and over $400 in winter because it is a 39yr old baseboard head. The landlord does not do any maintained, but I do not complain I'm just glad to have a roof over my head. I have a service dog named Cassie as well.
Recently my Dr office was shut down permanently the day before my monthly appt for refills. So, I went 3 weeks without 13 meds and got sick, withdrawals, couldn't digest food or use the bathroom because of my prostate. The hospital couldn't write my scripts either, so needless to say I had to use the money to see a Dr immediately and it was out of pocket, but only an NP and not a pain specialist, He only gave me half of what I needed for only a 2 week period.
So, I need to go back in a couple of days again and it has taken all my rent money. My landlord does not care that I am disabled. She just needs that $675 and I understand. I was never late or unable to pay until this year. I will be here for 2 years on December 20th. She is about to issue me a pay or quit form tomorrow or the next day which is the first step in eviction. Is there anyone that can help me with this month’s rent? Can I mail her a check? I have attached proof of my situation. I am on EBT Snap but social services here do not have rental assistance.
Commonwealth Charities out of downtown Corpus Christi helped me a couple of months ago when my vehicle broke down and cost me over $1,000 in repairs and now it broke again. So I'm having a tuff time to say the least. I am reachable at this email and the number below is my cell phone. Thank y'all for taking the time to look this over. I do not like asking for help. I used to be very healthy and independent and own my own business, so this is new to me and not how I operate, but it is what it is. They say I have 5 years left...I hope it is more, but I just need a leg up, not a handout...

Hi Edward,
We hope you recover from that latest surgery. Are on disability? As seems it may be an option.
As far as other help for you, whether bills, transportation, etc. or anything else look here for assistance for individuals in Corpus Christi.
