Seminole County rent help needed for SSI income

Post by Thiago »

Hi,
Looking for help for my Mother. She's in need of emergency rent help and a housing place she can live that is supportive. She is in Seminole County, FL. My mom is 75 years old bedridden and being overcharged for rent and can't afford the next month. She had a special needs trust fund but it will be out next month. Also lives off only SSI Income. If you can help please let me know by email or phone.

Hello,
My name is Derby, I am 45 years old and disabled, living on a fixed income from SSDI & SSI. I am a recent Seminole County Florida resident, moving my entire life to Florida from NY after the passing of my mother and no other family to take care of me. My friend in Florida offered to take me into his home temporarily and help me with my daily living needs while also trying to help me find a 2 bedroom home rental that would take my Housing Choice Voucher. It has been a nightmare.
Not only was I searching for home rentals, they had to be accessible and on the first floor; the majority of these buildings have only three floors and do not require elevators. At the same time, I was battling to connect with DSS because of a clerical error and not marking me down as Disabled, I was basically denied for everything I was applying for; it took a few months to sort all of this out, but I did it.
All of this and other unnecessary stresses, which took up tons of my time and now my voucher is expiring on December 30, I'll have to file for another 30 day extension. I am seriously at the point where I feel like there is no attainable accessible housing for me here (within a 10 mile radius of Oviedo, Florida) and if there is, I can't find it on my own, especially because of my limitations. Oh, let's not forget the "income requirements" that each management imposes! I would need to earn an income that's 2-3 times the rent in order to qualify! I told them, if I had $6000 in a month, I wouldn't need section 8!
I am writing to ask if there's any help out there for me. Back in NY, I had applied at DSS for a Broker fee voucher, which was granted, but I didn't end up using it, I moved here instead. Do you know if that's a possibility for me here? Or any other service that you could think of?
I'm also accruing bills, in my friends name, for my moving expenses and storage fees here in Seminole County. My friend is paying these bills, until I pay him back; I can't afford this either.
Please help,
