Meals deliver to liver cancer patient

Post by Alessia »

Hello,
My mom lives in Albuquerque, NM and has recently been diagnosed with liver cancer and undergoing treatment. She needs meals, food, financial help and other support. She had breast cancer in the '80 but this is a new primary. During her treatment for breast cancer she received a transfusion (before they screened blood) which gave her HepC.
She has also had back surgery and is on constant 4L of oxygen from damage to her diaphragm because of all the breast surgeries as well as the cancer in her liver
She is receiving Meals on Wheels, 1 week cleaning service, and a companion from Albuquerque Senior Services comes once a week.
We are extremely grateful for the help she is receiving!
It is just not quite enough to sustain her.
Often the meals she receives are too spicy. They only come once a day and she does not have the strength to cook for herself in the afternoon/evening at the moment, we hope she can in the future.
She wishes to live as long as possible, spend time with her grandkids, and be independent for years to come. She is 70 years young.
I live in Portland, OR and have a daughter just starting kindergarten and husband who work graveyard. We are barely making ends meet.
My sister lives in Albuquerque and helps as much as possible, has been her whole life as she was 7 when my mom got breast cancer. But, she works full time (sometimes on call nights), has three young children, also working poor, and a house just barely big enough for her family.
We love our mother very much but are not able to provide her the afternoon/evening meals and companionship that would help her get through this very difficult road bump of her liver cancer.
Please let me know if there are any Attendant Services available to her through your organization.

My name is Hannah. I'm currently living in Florida, a mother of two boys below the age of ten and homeschooling as well as caring for my mom during her battle with cancer and tending to her farm. My mom needs meals delivered to her for her cancer. Between my situation and a background from the past employment has been a dire complication. Please contact me for further information or instructions.

Now of course there are Meals on Wheels services. But there are also some cancer specific assistance programs for people with liver or other cancers. They can help with bills, meals, food and more. Find help for cancer patients here. https://www.needhelppayingbills.com/htm ... bills.html

Currently we live is Wake county NC my husband and I are disabled. We receive SSD as our only income and he has cancer
I’m looking for assistance getting food and meals delivered as we can't drive. Your prompt reply is necessary whether your agency can help us or not as my sick husband has specific dietary needs for his cancer.
If not any agencies or nonprofit groups that can help us out financially or deliver a hot meal for the next several weeks until things return to a more normal life.
Thank you

Hi,
Generally Meals on Wheels will deliver food to the elderly or disabled, with many also delivering to people with a serious medical condition, and liver cancer should qualify you. We do have information on the national Meals on Wheels service, which is here. https://www.needhelppayingbills.com/htm ... heels.html
There are also many local charities and food banks in Wake County. They will either offer meals on wheels, or be able to direct you to a program in your area, and here are the food pantries in Wake County.
