Unexpected divorce

Post by LorenDer »

Good afternoon.
I have an urgent and rather unique situation that I need help with. My daughter lives with her fiancé, and their 2-year-old son (my grandson), in Marietta Georgia. She is employed as a Medical Technician for Children's Hospital of Atlanta and her fiancé, works for Stanley as a Warehouse Supervisor. Together they earn enough to maintain their household and typically do well balancing their finances.
Recently they took me, my 14-year-old son, and 5-year-old granddaughter in to live with them after we lost our home and became homeless, because of an unexpected divorce and very untimely loss of employment. I am struggling to get back on my feet and actively & diligently searching for employment every day. I'm confident that I will be employed within the next few weeks (hopefully sooner); I've been working in my industry for 14 years and usually earn a decent living. This situation is very uncommon and extremely difficult for me.... I’m usually the one offering help and advice to my family. However, it has been nearly 4 months since my last contract ended and I have not been able to find a new job since then. But I continue to search each day and I'm hopeful to find something very soon.
In the meantime, Ashley and Jesse have been taking on all the expenses for the household on their own; and supporting additional people with no additional income coming in can be very difficult. Unfortunately, they have fallen behind on their rent as a result. They've paid rent late for two months in a row and have only been able to make a partial payment for August, which means they will be behind for this month (September) as well. I feel so bad that my situation is affecting them in such a negative way and that I am unable to offer financial assistance to help them out of this jam when they have opened their home to help me.
Now, their landlord is preparing to file documents through the courts to begin the eviction process. So, it looks like we will all be homeless within the next 30 days or so. I'm beyond distraught now.
I am desperately trying to find a rapid solution to help my family out of this predicament since the divorce was so sudden. I'm unsure if the landlord is willing to work with them and allow them to continue to live here once they are caught up on all past due rent plus fees, or if he just wants them out. Either way, my daughter and her family desperately need financial assistance to either catch up with rent through September or help with funds for a down payment for a new place because I'm sure they won't get back any of their security deposit. Once they can get through this rough period, I have no doubt that they will be able to pay rent on time moving forward.... especially if I'm back to work and able to assist.
Are you able to help? Or can you point me in the direction of local agencies that could assist? Our time is very limited to find a solution, so any advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated. I reached out to our local Catholic charity recently and they could assist with their maximum allowable grant of $300, which was applied to July's rent. But I believe they are only able to offer financial assistance once per year.
You can reach out to my daughter, or via her work email. She is at work today until 11pm and probably cannot answer her phone immediately while on the floor, so please leave her a voicemail message or email her. Also feel free to reach out to me directly. I am praying that your organization can help us.
Thank you in advance.

Hello,
I'm in need of some help.
I'm going through a bad, unexpected divorce. He's taken my kids from me. Manipulated and alienated me.
He's cut me off financially.
I have a car that I need some repairs done.
I have utilities I need help with since it's summer and they are going up.
I need a laptop (older is fine) so I can begin working.
I have 4 dogs that I need help with food and grooming. Possibly vet.
I am trying to find a low rent place to live that I can bring my kids home to.
I have no proof of income since I have not worked since the bad divorce process started.
I just today applied for assistance so I don't have proof of any of that yet
I have health insurance until the divorce is finalized however, I can't afford my medications, co pay, therapy or to even go to the doctor/dentist. I need to go to a couple of specialists but I can't afford my deductible and what other costs maybe associated.
I'd probably qualify for disability but I don't know how to apply.

What you describe sounds much like a legal issues. No child support, cut off kids and you, emotional abuse, etc. Try a free lawyer that focuses on divorce filings, as there are options. Look here for a free divorce attorney.
