Housing for disabled parents
Housing for disabled parents
I'm looking for information on assistance for my father. He is diabetic suffering from advanced peripheral neuropathy. He's currently seeking disability, which is proving difficult despite the fact he is visibly disable and has been out of work for over a year now. My mother, who is under educated and has a learning disability, has applied for work but has been continuously denied. After my father almost died from diabetic ketoacidosis last year, spending three months in the hospital, she refuses to leave his side. This, as well as not having a proper vehicle, makes it impossible for them to have any form of income. I need to know if there's any way to help them speed up the process of possibly getting into a home they can afford, a car that works and is safe and any way to assist with their debts and medical needs. They're sick of being told they will be called back or notified then sitting around waiting while nothing seems to happen. Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Well we do have extensive information on charities, non-profits, and other security deposit assistance programs and option. Most do prioritize help for seniors, the disabled, and others who are most at risk. Cars to get are not common, as so expensive. But most of these rental agencies can usually try to help people find a job too. Anyway, have your father try this resource for information and free advice on security deposit

Re: Housing for disabled parents
Hello,
I'm helping an elderly friend do some research on housing assistance programs in Washington State. My friend is in her 70's and her social security check isn't enough to help her cover rent, food, utilities, and other necessary expenses. Are there programs in Washington State she can apply to that can help with her rent? I look forward to hearing back from you.

Re: Housing for disabled parents
I hurt my back in early October and as a result I was put on short term disability. I got one check for almost 2 months of being off and it was 300 dollars as a result I haven’t paid rent in 2 months and I recently received a 5 day notice, I went back to work on June 3rd. I was hoping to receive some assistance for me any my kids so that I can at least have a starting point to try and work something out to avoid being evicted in 2 days.

I am trying to find low income based rentals for my mother, she is currently on disability and is looking for a place of her own, so I am not sure where to begin to help her find a place to live with her income. Can you please direct me in the right place. She would like to reside in Sumter County Florida. Thanks in advance.

Re: Housing for disabled parents
My husband has been unable to work since he had emergency foot surgery on mothers day weekend. He had some significant bad side effects from the medicine he was given for one of the three infections he had his foot.
We are months behind in rent and need some help until his disability goes through. We have 5 kids at home and are currently doing foster care for an 19 months old. I have an in-home daycare but, don't make enough to cover everything. My husband has lost most of his hearing, his balance, has kidney damage, two days ago he had a blood vessel in his eye break, and has swelling on one side of his chest. The landlord is talking about evicting us.

Sorry to hear of that. Unfortunately disability takes many months (if not years) to apply for and be approved. So it will not help you with your housing needs. Can your husband apply for short term disability at work? Or move in with friends/family? There are no easy options available for you here. But here are some more tips on housing for the disabled.
