Disability Denied

Post by hw1225 »

In the last 5 years I have dealt with many medical problems; so many that I consider the hospital a second home. I have had more scans and tests done then some will have in their entire life and I am only 24 years old. I have missed out on pursuing my goal of becoming a Registered Nurse as well as beginning my adult life with people my own age. I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Endometriosis back in February of this year. It was my third surgery in 2 years; in July I began having the same symptoms as I did when they found my first ovarian cyst. I have been off of work since mid July and last week it was determined that I need to have my left ovary and fallopian tube removed. As of November 1st I will no longer have my health insurance through work as well as no job. I was denied my short term disability (which I am going to appeal); since the beginning of August I have not received any income nor will I have income until December/January. I have a longer recovery time than most due to complications, mostly Pancreatitis. All the medical and financial problems I have been dealing with in the last couple years is really affecting my family emotionally and financially as well. I have tried looking and talking to people to find some assistance through yet another tough time in my life but there is nothing out there for young, single, independent women that want to work and want to go to school to make a difference in someone else’s life. I would truly appreciate if anyone can give me any advice or direction to me help get through this.

Thank you!

You can find tips and ways to get help with your medical bills. It also surprises me that disability would be denied based upon your circumstances. If you want to make a difference, you can always help me read and reply to these posts in this forum. Hundreds of people are asking for help with medical bills, rent, energy expenses, and much more.
You can also find clinics and charities that can offer you free health care programs and services.

Hi,
I am not really sure what you are asking. I assume you are having some type of problems with filing for disability. Maybe your health insurance company or employer is giving you a hard time, or maybe some government agency. Since not really sure, I am guessing you need some type of legal advice. If so, try this resource for learning about legal assistance programs and how to get free advice from attorneys and non-profit law firms.

I am Ted's mother writing to see if he can get some medical and other assistance. He is no longer collecting unemployment, his food stamps have been interrupted, and he is homeless in the LA area - in or near No. Hollywood, CA. He is absolutely destitute and disabled too. I have been sending some money via Western Union for him to buy food, but what I send doesn't last very long. He needs shelter and a complete medical check-up because he says he hasn't been feeling very well. I was widowed in 2010. I was left with a small amount of money my husband left me so I bought the home. I was ripped off by carpenters and all the repairs still have not been done. This yr. my 2004 Honda CRV was totaled by the other man's insurance was not given much so I decided to try and fix my sons 1985 mustang, big mistake it needs too much repair and I do not have anymore money. I have applied for SSI disability because of lupus, mental problems that I see a therapist for. I have a $744 home ins. bill I can't pay, $117 electric bill, $150 mortgage, can't afford anything any more because I have no income and no one to depend on for help. I get turned away in my county for any kind of help except food stamps that I am grateful for. Also my air conditioner is not working and the cheapest price I found was $400. I am at the end of my rope and going out of my mind. It is every mth. I worry all the time. Please please need help!

So it seems as if you are both looking for help, and it seems to be an extensive variety of means. As you mention utilities, rent, housing, and medical conditions or needs. So where is it that you live, as we can cover the city of LA, but you do not mention your location. Anyhow, click here for our most extensive listing of programs, non-profits, and charities. Literally hundreds of financial assistance programs and resources are listed. Including free legal aid if you want to pursue action against your husband too.

I have an elderly mother with low income that meets poverty numbers, seeking assistance with weatherizing windows and roof in home. My mother lives in Pennsylvania, Luzerne county. Can anyone provide info with who she can call or where to get specific information? I found this site a little confusing. She also has health insurance but have had 3 surgeries since 2009. I have dr, hosp and related bills from them. I have 2 personal loans to repay along with a recent car repossession. I am on Social Security Disability, get part of my ex-husband's military retirement and work part-time. I am not supposed to work due to the nature of my disability but have no choice. I'm trying to refinance my house to a lower interest rate and would like to refinance my car (which has a high interest rate due to credit issues). The 2 credit cards I had have closed accounts and I arranged to pay monthly. I'm so stressed I can hardly function. I'd appreciate any advice or help you can give me.

You can actually work if you receive disability compensation. The federal government and social security administration does allow that. So that can help you make more money to pay for weatherization and other support or assistance you need. What is confusing with the site? Note you do need to call the agencies on your own to apply. So we also have information on the disability application process as well as hearing for those that have been denied. We also have the phone numbers for the agencies to call. So try this for more information, and click here.

I am a temporarily disabled mother of 4 and wife. We are a family of 6 living in a 2 bedroom apartment in Rocklin, CA. Due to circumstances beyond my control, I was placed on a forced medical leave of absence, 5 months ago. We have been struggling to survive ever since. Unfortunately temporary state disability and my husband working 2 jobs, is still not enough to make ends meet.
We are in dire straits today. 3 days ago we were served a 3 day notice from our apartment complex because we were unable to pay the rent. They will file for eviction at the end of business today. The resources we thought we had available did not come through.
I have been to the Human Services office and been denied help because we apparently make too much and have a car so therefore are disqualified. I've contacted many resource agencies, churches and charities but no one has anything to spare at this time. I even applied for a loan against my retirement plan but it has still not been approved nor will not be available in time to save us. I can't sleep. I'm afraid that if the eviction gets filed, no one will rent to us in the future. Besides that, my back can't handle another move. I am reaching out in desperation at this point to plead with anyone out there who may have any help for us today. We are praying for a miracle. Please contact me via email or phone with any help.

I'm not sure where to find the help I need. I am disabled with a few rare diseases, but my disability application was never processed. We moved from NJ to Fort Myers FL because I could no longer with stand the cold. I did not think I was going to get worse, I’m not able to work anymore and for years I've been trying to get SSDI with no luck and it keeps getting denied.
We are a family of five. My husband being the only one working, we are trying to move because I can't handle the stairs and I no longer feel safe here. So basically we are a low income disabled family that needs help getting into a one family house in a safe place to raise my kids and to get a reliable car to get me to all the specialist I need to see.
Since it's genetic my children have to be evaluated for what I have. I can't find cheap insurance for the car I have now but it's really on its way out anyway. If there are any car and home programs for low income families please help, you can email me. Thank you.
