Hello. I got laid off in late April. I will be 42 next week. My husband got laid off about 4 weeks ago and he just turned 45. We have a 12 year old daughter & 7 year old son We have never been late on our rent, except one time 5 years ago when I forgot to drop it off a day late. We live in Las Cruces, NM. THERE IS NO RENT ASSISTANCE HERE FOR PEOPLE LIKE US!
We do have food stamps or else we'd have 0 food. We used LIHEAP for one of our utility bills several months ago. We do not want to have to ask for help but we need it. I have been selling personal belongings of mine off and my resume is all over the internet. Our Community Action lady finally called me a month ago and could not help. The Mesilla Valley Community of Hope lady actually told me last Friday that the only way they would help is for us to go 3 months without paying rent and go to court and be evicted...THEN THEY WOULD TRY TO WORK IT OUT WITH OUR LANDLORD!!
That is of course if our duplex passed some kind of inspection also. The other choice she gave was for us to break our lease and "find another place to live which they would then help us with a deposit..etc,etc,". I am not kidding. This came out of her mouth. We are trying very hard to stay calm & positive, but rent & all our other bills are due and piling up. Our rent is $625.00. We had a church group do a "home visit" today just to see if we could get help with our EP Electric bill ($107) and they said they'd have to get back with us. It gets disconnected Thursday by 5pm. Every where we've gone the doors are slammed and I don't know where else to go. Can you please advise me? The internet will be going soon if I can't get it paid as well. Thank you for letting me vent. My computer won't let me log in, something about a mail default not being.

Hello. I am looking for information on where I might find assistance through the holidays. My husband is retired military awaiting the start of his disability payments. We've also taken a cut in half on our food stamp assistance this month but I was really hoping to have a good Thanksgiving meal for my husband, 2 year old son, and myself. Being newer to Albuquerque NM, I have no clue where to get started. Can you offer me any information that might narrow down my search? Thank you and God bless!

Hello, I'm a father and electrician from Albuquerque. Recently I lost a job and started my own business. I have also passed half of my contractors test and will soon be a licensed contractor. I have never had any kind of assistance and never been in a situation to loose my apartment. I am in it now and desperately need help for this month. Please help.

I have a full time job but ran into trouble with my bills. I tried to get help in October, November, and March to no avail. I was playing phone tag with everyone from Help NM to Salvation Army. As of today’s date I am going to have my car towed because I can't afford the $38 to register my car or the $62 for the insurance.

My rent is late and I can no longer afford any of my prescriptions (I have diabetes and am working through sciatica and trying to get a CPAP for sleep apnea). I can't afford to go to the doctor. I just got the power and the phone turned back on in my apartment and I can't afford to get either one of my sons any medical or dental help because I can't afford the co pay. My oldest son needs a psychiatrist but I can't afford that or the transportation to get him there. He was in court in September and the judge granted his disability case but until they get everything worked out I still can't get him a doctor. Help!!!

Hello, I'm needing some assistance with my rent. It is $420, and my light bill which is $384.69. I'm looking for a job I'm not the type of person to abuse the system. I in the town of San Bernalillo is where I live.
I've done called to different community's for assistance and they are out of funding . My point is I'm 50 years old looking for a job and I cant get assistance. It is really cold out here and I'm about to lose everything and one cares. And it's really sad how someone like me is treated. I’m asking please help me through this trying time. Thank you an God Bless.

We have extensive information on programs for New Mexico. Not only may they cover rent, but many other bills too. And if you say the barrier is a lack of job, that too can be addressed.
However, as you said most community agencies do run out of money. You will just need to call around for support as resources are limited, especially because being 50 years old puts you under the senior age limit. Here is information on our New Mexico resources, so call around.

I am a single mother who recently had to relocate back to New Mexico, due to custody issues. I have not been able to find employment yet, and have been struggling to make ends meet. My rent, as well as utilities, is due and I don't have nearly enough to pay it. I don't want my daughter to have to suffer and will do anything it takes to get back on my feet.

I am a NM resident and am in need of some assistance.
In February I made a police report for a car burglary and I was arrested for a two year old warrant that I was unaware of. It had brought me to Texas and I am now trying and will be going home to NM. I lost my job, however I still have my apartment. I was enrolled in college as well. I need help financially until I am able to get back on my feet and maybe some job referrals or options. I need help in Albuquerque New Mexico.. I appreciate it very much and a response at your convenience.
Thank you,

I live at 5 Roswell, NM, 88203 with my two sons, ages 21 and 17, and two of my grandchildren, ages 4 and 3. Last Sunday we lost the electricity that powers our water well, we've been without water for 9 days now. The electric company told me I would have to hire an electrician to completely rebuild the power pole and everything on it. I work a full time job, but what I make barely covers my property payment, utilities, insurances and very little food for our family. It's going to cost a minimum of $1200 to have the pole rebuilt, that's the cheapest I've found through Shay Hellums, owner of Helco Construction. I'm asking if there's any way I can possibly get help with this so that we can get our water going again. It's been a great hardship for us, and although I never ask for help, I'm praying that someone will please help us. Can you please let me know where I might go or who I could call to pay for help or if there's any charities that could possibly help us?
I appreciate whatever you can tell or help me with.
Thank you,
