I need legal advice

Post by Tyler Han »

Our case has been ongoing for 3 months and it has been the most emotional, stressful, scary and difficult thing we have gone through. The hardest thing to swallow is that our 4 year old daughter has been the victim. Case is landlords VS tenants, and our case isn't like every other tenants. We moved into the rental in March 2012 2011. They knew what to hide/cover up and what to say to get us in. It was our second rental on our own. When looking at it, they lied and told us they never had problems with lead and that they were 100% positive it was not in their house.... Our complaints to them about issues arising in the home started around the end of November. Including broken doors, broken locks, hand railing on stairs glued into walls, electrical holes covered with construction paper and painted on. The electricity was and is horrible, told them we couldn't use anything unless unplugged everything else and then get shocked when plugging it in. spots in the ceiling of the basement water damaged and later started blackening and falling to the ground, exposing the wiring stuffed in the ceiling. Black spot in bathroom on main floor was growing outrageously fast. And more. May was when our daughter was tested positive for lead. The landlords were notified immediately. One yelled at said “no way in hell it's my house.” then hung up. Notified the other one and he said “not our house, we checked for that, it’s the house you moved out of. We then let him know that there was, is chipping paint in every window in front room and that all the stairs and outside and basement floor was peeling and chipping. When he did a walk through after us calling and asking after 2 months of telling him of our daughter lead checks, in the end of February, he came in and said he would have to get us some paint. We retold him of all the issues, read our list that they asked us to make in January. I showed him the blackening bathroom floor and the water damage getting worst by the day in basement. He told us that it was mildew growing in bathroom and that we needed to find a way to put exhaust fan in and he would supply it. I told him about the constant battle it was to keep up with the cleaning of the house with the paint and “mildew” that did not come off with any kind of cleaner: bleach, Lysol cleaner, and then even pneumonia. It was then a week or two later we received ONE gallon of paint and a paint brush falling apart. June 13th our daughter was scary sick that the ER transferred him to Greensboro Children's ICU. Them also knowing of all the ER visits and the constant blood checks with his Doctor. July 7th Notice of Repair was issued and trust me when I say it would be cheaper for them to knock down the house. We had volunteered for programs through local job center for guidance with everything that was happening the city worker for KAFASI is who called inspection, due to the severe health risks and she had been in contact with the landlords before this. Our only concern being the well being of our baby, the landlord’s only one being our money. July 20th unannounced stopping by he wanted to know what our plans were. We told him “well if you’re not fixing the house we want our deposit back so we can find a safer environment.” he then laughed and said “ if I am not getting paid you’re not.” got in his car and drove off. July 21st two men that I have never met stopped by unannounced and wanted to come in to fix the house. I asked for identification of who they worked for and told them I knew my rights. They had no ID, no logo on clothing or on vehicle. The truck bed was empty and the trailer attached empty. And the didn’t look like the most trust worthy people either. One just snoop around the house and didn’t say anything. I am 26 years old and honestly I was scared and this time it was only my son and I home, his father at work. I did not let them in and told them “they needed to set up a time with the landlord so this could happen properly and legally.” July 22nd unannounced landlord stops by, yells at Patrick (sons father) for me not letting his workers in. and then said “this is not our first case of lead and I am not dealing with it again.” then handed over a 5 day eviction. I have all our daughters lead documents, pictures of house, notice of repair, dates and times all the proof we need and my complaint filed with DATCP and all the emails to and from the consumer specialist. She sent out a letter with the violations the broke on June 12 and nothing was accomplished she had the wrong address and now she is telling me she can no longer help us. The damage hearing is on October 13th and I am not giving up with this. I am standing up for my family and the public; they cannot get away with this. Can you help us? I alone have got us this far just on my evidence and the lack of theirs.

Where can I go for legal advice? I need help getting spousal support. I am 62, was a stay at home mom for 30 years, was in domestic abuse marriage and finalized divorce 3 years ago. I was given, in divorce settlement, $1800 month spousal support, no retirement, no community property, no car, no health insurance.
My ex is self-employed dentist. He stopped paying me support in February 2015. I have no savings or back up financial support. Spousal support is my sole income. Can I get legal advice about how I can get my support? Any other advice would be appreciated also. I am not on the street yet but am afraid I will be very soon.

I was laid off from the job I had for 7 years and have been struggling to find another since. I worked at Texaco for almost a year however the employer was taking money out of my pay check without a reason. I did file a complaint with the labor board who ordered the employer to pay me $200 but he has not. So I need to sue them and need legal aid on how to do so. My utilities are turned off at the moment and I will be evicted if my rent is not paid. Please email info on what I can do.

Well, a free attorney may not just "sue" someone for civil damage. Generally they file complaints with labor boards, and do other things to mediate a solution. But try what you want. We have lists of free lawyers by states to call to make inquires too.
