Help around the house

Post by Rose_f »

I am at the moment on a medical leave from my job. I have a doctor appointment on 4/23/12. I believe that I am going to have my feet operated on. With my medical leave I am getting paid which is a blessing. At the same time my landlord just raised the rent to alot more than I am paying now for the last 10 years. My problem is in order to keep my rent at the 10 year rate I have to cut the grass (it is a small amount), but I have to go to the doctor for surgery on my knee and I am going to be laid up. I told him okay, and did not tell him about my medical leave or my knees. I am not sure what to do. I need this operation and my rent to stay the same, and this paid medical leave. Is there anyone out there that will cut my grass for me until my knee is healed and is over? I live in Geneva, IL. Thank you.

Well, did we reply to this earlier? I thought we did. But if not, we are not sure of grass cutting agencies and how to go about that. You may want to call your local Salvation Army or community action agency in Kane County and see what they recommend. Maybe they are aware of some local volunteer organizations in which people give back to their town or community.

I am writing to you in hopes that you can help. I have tried everything and every place I can and to no luck at all. I am trying to get help, for my mom, We had been through a lot, my mom is our rock, she gave so much to us kids, and she needs our strength now. We had a city call on us a few years ago, and there were so many Unfounded calls, the case was closed so many times, but people called for spite, weather it was some one who did not like me or mom. This is the way people get even around here. My mom lost so much, she is not happy anymore, she worries all the time, cries all the time. She has tried to do all repairs needed on our home, by herself. She did not pay the mortgage for June and March, in order to help me and to also buy a water pump, because ours froze and broke. We had luck enough to have some one help put it in for us. But, when they did, we found that the tank, also froze, we do have water, but it is slow and no pressure, but we do have water. My mom, has called around everywhere she can think of to try and find a place that can help, with a donated tank and help, but nothing. She is worried that the pump will end up burning out, because the water is coming slower, and I went to check and found we have a little leak. She did try calling the VFW and many other places, but it just seems like no one cares, or wants to help, unless there is something in it for them. My mom has given everything she has and had to care and raise my sister and I. She took care of my gram, until she died, and that was due to the stress of all of this, we were always able to do things and afford things and always had fun. Now, there is nothing, and I want my mom, to at least get a break. She needs this, is there any way or place that could help. Not some place that will say yes and then not do a thing. That is what we run into, we get yes, get our hopes up and then, no one calls or comes. Then they do not answer their phones.

First of all, great for looking out for your mom. Many people don't do that. So it sounds like you need home repairs done? If so, this is not commonly found as an assistance program, especially in Indiana. Some non-profits may offer very low, or even zero %, loans for some homeowners. Rarely direct financial aid may be provided. Anyway, some options are weatherization or try calling a local community action agency in Indiana. Sometimes those agencies have information on programs. Read more.

My fiancé got diagnosed with cardiomyopathy and since then his condition has worsened so I lost my job on the count of taking him to Dr. appointments. At least once a week he has to be put on the heart transplant list and he can’t miss an appointment. It’s caused our only vehicle to break down with all the travel from the house and we are to the point of being evicted and credit bills stacking up.
I can be homeless but he with his condition can’t be on the streets especially in winter. I’m already scared I’m going to lose the person I love and on top of that my car going hungry and being homeless... I’ve never had to ask for help but I learned that sometimes by you have to humble yourself and do things out the ordinary.

If he is a heart patient, and you need a ride to the specialist because your car broke down, there are disability ride programs you can try. While that won't take car of your other needs (such as home care) at least it will allow him to get to a critical Dr. appointment. Then you can look into other home care or food programs after that. Maybe the ride service can bring you to a pantry too.
