Medicare Part D from Jewish Services and other bills

Post by Heart1 »

I was trying to contact Jewish Family services for help with my Medicare Part D premiums in January from one of their grants. It is NOT because I spent money on the holidays -- I didn’t. I am 61 and disabled and 3 years ago I moved into an Apartment that the rent could only be 50% of my gross income so I assumed they wouldn’t raise it as I am on a fixed income but they keep raising it. Then my car broke down and I had to rent a car  twice on weekend rates which were much cheaper than hiring an uber in order to get to two doctors appointments - one that I couldn’t miss and one that I have been waiting almost a year to get into.
Then someone stole the platform and ramp for my electric wheelchair off the back of my car parked in front of my Apartment in bright lights so now I have no way to transport it. Then I also had to renew my license in November and at $54.00 that isn’t in my budget but need it to get to my doctors appointments that are an hour plus away. My Social Security Check is $126 too much -- because if I didn't have that extra $126 I wouldn't have to pay the $145.00 Medicare premium for parts A&B plus another $17.50 for part D prescription drugs.
Then I have to pay at least 20% of all medical Bill's. If I didn't have that $126 all medical and drugs would be free as then I would have Medicaid and Medicare. What's worse if my income were even more than I have now and wasn’t on Medicare due to disability then I would qualify for other medical insurance with 0 premium that everything would be paid. I also can’t get Medicare Advantage with dental and vision and all the other new be benefits without having to pay another $71 on top of the 145 & 17 dollars I already pay and then my one prescription would also go up $40 a month. That leaves 0 for food, car insurance and necessities like laundry detergent, the one toilet paper I can use, cleaning supplies, etc.
I can’t let my rent go past due because I must move closer to my doctors who are Medicare approved and family & friends as soon as I can find a place with less rent but if I get a pay rent or vacate notice then I will be stuck here and it's awful as it's too hard to get to my doctors (I have 1 doctor that it’s impossible to get another in the state that is in Edmonds near where I used to live and where I want to move back too. I had to take out a payday loan last month of $300 to pay my 805.00 rent.
Back to the stupid $126 that I am hoping Jewish Services can help with. If I didn’t have that I would also qualify for $200 in food and medication assistance when I only get $15. Which doesn’t go far on the diet I should be on. I lived on peanut butter sandwiches for 3 months and grilled cheese for 2 months which is really bad for my medical conditions and health. I worked hard all my life many years as a volunteer or in ministry positions for little or no pay. Then for my husband's business from home while raising 3 kids. Until I had to separate for the protection of my children and went to college. I paid high rates for disability insurance when I had good jobs as well as the Medicare Part D premium. But they divided all my income over all the years I worked so the years I didn't have income even though working were looked at as 0 making my disability so low. Not to mention doctors should have said I was disabled when I had disability insurance by I had 5 different doctors for all that was wrong. So as a single parent I just kept working too long of hours.
I don’t know if I Am writing the right Jewish Family Charity program place but I need help before January 5 for my rent, Medicare Part D for my medications and for food if possible that I can buy as I need fresh meats that I can cook on a George Foreman grill  and fruits that I can and will eat. And for a protein vitamin drink that helps balance my nutrients I need. As most of the food bank food delivery I just share with the rest of the seniors and disabled at my apartment complex as I can’t eat or shouldn’t eat.
Thank you,
Tamara

There is a Jewish Family Services in Orlando. Maybe they can help with Medicare - maybe not. But you can call them to ask and/or apply.
Find their programs here.
