where can we get help

Post by grandma5x » Sat Dec 31, 2011 1:23 am

My sister was diagnosed with lymphoma, was laid off in May of 2011, has applied for disability and twice turned down, has gone to the state for help thru state programs and told they were not taking any new applications. Attorneys told not to file for unemployment since she really can no longer work. She is going to lose her townhome since she cannot afford the mortgage. Where can she turn for help since every agency has turned her away.

We need to know the state/county in order to be helpful. Not sure why not file for unemployment. While we wait for more information, try these. Look into free legal aid in case you have bad advice.
http://needhelppayingbills.com/html/fre ... dvice.html Income qualified clients will qualify for the free advice and representation.
If the main issue is housing or potential foreclosure, we tell people to start the process by speaking to a HUD approved housing agency. They are non-profits and provide free advice. Read more on free HUD counseling. For both of the links scroll midway down to find your state. If you provide more specific information we can reply with additional options for you too.
