I'm trying to find out if my mother is eligible to receive heating oil assistance this winter. I'm not sure what information you require but would appreciate some guidance as to how to proceed. She lives in Rhode Island and is 84 years old. Thank you for any information you can provide.

Hi,
I am writing to you to see if my husband and I would be eligible for Assistance with paying our oil bills this winter. We both work, but have many bills that we pay every month. We pay out thousands between our mortgage, house insurance, car insurance, credit card bills, NY state tax, Federal tax, cable, phone, home equity loan, electric, water, gas, food and miscellaneous things such as car repairs, home up-keep, vet bills, and whatever else comes along unexpectedly. I am asking for assistance. Our oil bill usually runs about $375.00 per month between November and March. If there is any way to get a little relief we would be very grateful. We live in Suffolk County in New York.

Good Morning: I don't know where to begin. Here it goes I will try to make it short and to the point. This is all new to me. I have never had to ask for help before but my husband and I are in a position where we have to. He lost his job about 18 months ago as a high school English teacher. Since then he has been subbing and we have been able to get by as I work as well. (We have 3 children as well). We were doing ok up until December when the school he was subbing at had 18 days off for Christmas. We have one problem we need to be able to get just one delivery of oil just to get us over this hump. As of right now we are almost empty. We have tried LHEAP but we were denied we make just over the limit. I don't know where else to turn too. If you can't help believe me I understand but if you know where I can turn to for any advice or information that would be greatly appreciated. Thanking you in advance for any help or assistance you could be would be greatly appreciated.

We don't have the applications online. You need to call the agencies and programs we have listed in order to apply. Many provide heating assistance based on number of family members, so if you do have 7 members then your income can be higher than it otherwise would be. The Maine programs are here, including those for Portland. More Cumberland County assistance programs.

We have been trying to get a hold of Joe's Oil (the free heating oil program) for three days now and getting nowhere. My wife and I are on Social Security but make just over the poverty level. We are down to 3/4 of tank of and the oil companies won't deliver any less than 150 Gal. It's going to cost over $800.00 to fill up and all we have is $200.00. We are asking for a one time fill up or half a tank. We live in Preston Connecticut.

I am completely out of oil. I have three small children, 6 year old son, 4 year old son & 2 year old daughter. My unemployment just ran out, my fiancé is working, but we just don't have money. Between rent, bills, gas & other necessities, we are barely getting by. We went from homeless to having a home again. I need oil for clean clothes, showers, baths etc. Please help.

Hello,

I am contacting your agency in hope that you will be able to provide me with assistance in heating my home this winter. I am a single African American mother with two young men in college whom I am assisting with college expenses.

The heating resource for my home is Propane Gas provided by a company name Couch Oil here in Durham NC. My heating expense during the year usually cost anywhere from $950 - $1150. Today I am totally out of gas and I am told by Couch Oil I will have to pay a $65.00 charge for them to check the pressure.

Unfortunately, at this time I just do not have the money to pay for this service that my household need so badly. With all of the severe cold weather we are having, if I don’t make a purchase soon my hot water tank will shutdown. That would be disastrous for the home.

I would really appreciate any assistance your organization can provide for me and my family at this time.

Thank you in advance,

Sometimes LIHEAP crisis aid can provide more heating oil. Not it does not cover propane, but for those northeastern states that need fuel oil, use boilers, etc. then maybe they can provide this. It is generally a small grant given to the qualified low income household. So apply for assistance and see what they say. Details are here on the Crisis LIHEAP program.
