Judgement on a house

Post by Anderson »

Hello,
Hope you are well today.
I received a judgment at my mother's house from a private attorney representing the US Government (California Student Aid Commission). The judgment is for $2000 plus $3500 in interest and cost, so over $5500.
The loan is from 1991 and was served at my mother's house but don't live there.
I have not been working for some time and can't pay it because my significant other doesn't work and we have a child.
Can you tell me how I may get help and what options I have? God Bless and Thanks.

It sounds like you need your own attorney to fight the judgment. They can provide you information on how to get help. The firms can contest US government rulings and know all the ins and outs of laws in California. Since the filing was from 1991 (15 years ago) there may be some time limitations involved as well. So find the free legal aid in California and there are many firms across the state.
