Rent subsidized for senior

Post by Xaxman »

Hi,
I divorced my husband 10/2017 and I will be a senior 62 years old this year.  Me
health is so bad, I cannot walk or stand for not very long time.  I am
living on alimony and I am afraid that, not able to catch up with apartment
rent going up.  I read about subsidized rent for elderly low-income person,
but I don't know how to apply on that program, would you please send me
information about that please?
I would be very appreciated for your help.
Sincerely,
Cassie_Smith

Hello.
I have made attempts to call several local agencies. None seem to offer rent assistance or rent subsidized housing for seniors.
The reason I am struggling to pay rent is that my son passed away in April. When he was working, he would give me some money to pay rent and utilities. He and his two children (who are now 18 and 19 yrs old) have lived with me since 2007. Their mother is in and out of rehab.
I was granted through the CARES act in July a payment of $2,500.00 that helped with my two month's back rent and utility payments. That was a blessing. I was able to borrow $1,500.00 with a loan company last month that helped me pay rent.
I have been paying off payday loans and now only have minimal bills. So I am making strides to improve my financial situation, but I am just "stuck" at this time because both kids are unemployed and while one is still in school, the other dropped college shortly after dad's death.
I am in the need for $500.00 before the month of November ends. I have already discussed with the landlord that I will pay him at that time. My rent is due on the 2nd week of the month because my SS check is deposited in my account the second Wednesday of each month. I also work part time at home for a printing company, but because of COVID, my hours are very minimal. I usually earn $100 weekly plus my SS benefit of $1,887.00 monthly. My rent is $1,050.00 and my utilities are approximately $315.00 per month.
Is there any application available or any resource you can provide that you think I may be awarded for the rent assistance I need that focuses on subsidized senior rent programs.
I would appreciate a quick response. I am sure you have helped countless people in their communities. I would appreciate an answer.

Of course any housing is hard to get, whether a senior citizen or not. Most have waiting lists. But we have a list of resources. Look here for subsidized senior housing programs.
