Moving and renting at same time

I'm a single low income mother with my son going to attend UCR in the fall. We live in TX now, but need to move to CA. I don't have the means to rent an apartment that asks for full rent. I am self-employed, but sometimes it is not enough. I really need some assistance. Thank you.

Well you probably should not move to Monterey California then if you can't afford it. The rent there is much higher than in Texas, as is the general cost of living. So that sounds like a bad decision. But if you insist, find places for rent assistance in Monterey County that you can call on to apply. Also ask your son to check with the college financial aid office.
